My guess: February - March 2013
I originally thought March 2013 but even that is looking doubtful at this point so I'm going with May 2013.
I don't even expect the beta to begin until January. The alpha isn't starting until November and that will take 1.5-2 months. I doubt SE will change from alpha to beta over the Christmas period as their staff will be on holiday so definitely January for beta.
Anything less than a 4 month beta would be worrying. It takes time to go back and fix bugs and change things. You have to remember this is a whole new game and the beta will be treated as such. 4 months for an MMO beta is on the short end of the scale, it could well be 6 or more but unlikely.
Then we will have a few weeks of open beta while the game is packaged up and distributed around the world.
Then the open beta will be closed while they transition from that and prepare the servers for release, say 1-2 weeks.
So yeah, May at the earliest.
Unfortunately GTA5 is likely to be released around the same time and I've been looking forward to that more. So I am actually hoping ARR won't be released until June or July.

Off-Topic I know but How come Aion is F2P ( I haven't played that game yet) and the Music is amazingly good. I know it used to be p2p, but with Music that good.. it's almost in the same league as FF games are... I admit it.. not all games that are F2P are bad ( at least as far as the music is concerned).
Maybe all the Good F2P Games were once p2p games. Call me surprised. o.o

Beta will probably take 6+ months. If they rush this and it's crap like 1.0 they are going to look pretty stupid.
Am I the only one who thinks a 6 month beta is too much?
Not even because I want to play ARR soon or anything, it would actually be beneficial to me to not have a MMO I'm really interested in released until next summer (out of RL reasons), but because I expect a game to be already mostly finished when it goes into beta state. If it takes more than half a year of fixes AFTER it went into beta it probably wasn't ready for beta anyways.
Beta should be used for general adjustments, most game breaking issues should be resolved beforehand..
Also, there's a certain time limit on how long you can keep people interested.
If you start hyping your game in spring 2012 and it's still not released in summer 2013 people will just lose interest in it.
Not true for ANY game, some games had people waiting for it for 20 years, but FFXIV ARR is not that kind of highly anticipated title.
Therefore I'm hoping for something between March and May 2013.
Alpha being pushed back into November is already too much, It's like...SE, it's ok to let us test something you're working on...that's the point.
hmm, the amazon date is a place holder, dont remember where, but i remember yoshi-p saying thats not an actual date, just untill the set date is ... set.Well I think the stores have it.
