Not really, they offered discount for people who subbed both, so it's not really competing since XIV would have been competing with it in Sept 2010 and if you recall, that was also in the prime of abyssea still.

That was to get the FFXI community into XIV - and if XIV wouldn't have failed horribly times would look bad for XI.
