    FFXIV Fishing System

    Hello there guys.
I just sent in a suggestion about current XIV fishing system.
Am i the only one who consider it kinda boring? Am i the only one who actually think XI had the best dishing system that players ever experienced?
I'll type some of the best things i loved in XI system that XIV doesnt have, nor plants to as far as i know:

    1) The fight fishing system: I liked how the fighting fish system worked and how challenging it was most of the time, mostly while catching Ebisu fishing rod fish. The current XIV system is boring, and alike all the other (Botanist, Miner) which gets me bored after lvling Miner and Botanist to lvl fishing in almost the same way.

    2) How hard it was to get skill ups: Fishing actually needed alot of effort and work to get to 100, which was good because every game requires some challenge in order for people to actually feel proud of having it at cap when they reach it. The current system is too easy, specially if you take the leve's to level it.

    3) Fishing quests: 'Inside the Belly' was the main fishing quest, where we whouldnt only need to sell fish at the AH or craft it or NPC, but actually give it to NPC's in a hope of obtaining an item that supposedly was "inside the fish belly" and whould actually give good items, such as 'Pirate's Char' and 'Brigands Chart' which mostly only Pirates droped the best multi-hit dagger in XI till the introduction of Abyssea Augmented Weapons.

    4) Fish on the boats: I loved this part, specially when there were RMT bots fishing there and pirates showed up and kicked their butts off. Aside of kicking RMT's butts, i loved the challenge to solo Silverhook and Blackbeard as SMN for fun while having a quick fishing break to do so. Not only this, but also the possible fish caugh changed too, and we had the chance of catching 'pirate's rides only' fish.

    5) Rod Breaks: This was totally mean at times, but was actually good, so people couldnt just grab a weak rod and fish most of the fishes avalable in the game with it. Also made fishing more harder to lvl up, which was good because not everyone had it maxed and it was actually hard to get there. Also the contests for Lu Shangs and Ebisu were challenging and people actually aimed for those rods to actually be good at this (craft? i think it was considered a craft in XI since it was in the Crafts list).

I can be forgetting good stuff of ffxi fishing system that i didnt mention, but mostly, i loved the entire system and how challenging it was. I mostly made this topic to see how many more out there played XI fishing and miss it like i do. Right now XI system is pointless because i just hate how easy the game turned. There is no point in playing XI just for fishing, but some kind of this stuff could be added to the game to make it more challenging and fun.
I know, as obvious, there will be ppl rating this thread down, which i dont care, because it all happens in every thread. People want stuff easy to do, and to get to top as quick as possible so they can probably go play other games and try to master it all and mention how great they are. For those with work and all that, Fishing in XI was something u could just go, relax, wait for a bite, fight it, relax again, and not entirely a MUST to do, only those who loved it wanted to do it most of the time (like me).

Btw am i the only one who think XIV is pretty dead atm? I cant even do SB partys anymore because none wants too.... Atomos is dead too at NA times, it always despawns. God where are we getting to! (i know new WoW stuff made alot to move games again and so did GW2, but its actually sad :/ and cant do most of the stuff anymore).

From what it appears in the 2.0 videos gathering is going to have less of a mini game. So maybe you will have to fight to get something like that back if you want.

I do wish they had some epic fish though, and fishing on boats. Push for those

I wasnt too fond of my rod breaking lol... perhaps with this games repair system it wouldnt be so bad.

I would suggest giving more of a reason to fish. After that then we can work on the fun part

Well you can self level your alchemist and cooker with it. I hope in 2.0 they will let us have varying sized aquariums* in our house, would love to have some fish lol. Or put them in the ocean if you are in that zone, in the river for the other.

That's not a reason to be honest. Leveling ALC and CUL can easily be done without FSH, actually, it's even faster if you don't waste time fishing and instead do something more productive (gil/h ratio) and buy the fish.

Fishing should become an end-game element, best consumables for raids should include fish in their recipe in order for fish to be valuable and in order to have a constant demand, at a decent price, for fish. Right now, the effort/reward ratio is pitiful.

I won't even talk about the boringness. When you mine, HQ Ore can make you good money. Same with wood.

Fish? It's a joke. A good half of my fish is going straight to NPC because of the very low demand. Couple items are fine like Navigator's Ear and such, but that's it. I can be more profitable by farming rat tails than actually fishing... How sad is that.

Quests such as Inside the belly whould make it worth it! but what mostly troubles me now is really the fishing system, its kinda boring.... being thee watching a point going right and left, pick where its supposed to be to fish the fish, and bam, u get the fish. No challenge at all :\

As for the actual minigame, I actually rather enjoy the method on FFXIV over FFXI, and this is coming from a fishing nut who came over from FFXI. (I never did get the Lu Shang rod, but I can guarantee you that I supplied my fair share of Moat Carp to the local AHs :3 )

However, I definitely wouldn't mind if it was a little more challenging.

I agree... however, being a selfish fisher, as much as I enjoy the mini game, the other two can have something different, and leave me my metronome X)

IMHO, the minigame seems to make sense with fishing the most, the way you have to feel a knack for where the fish in the area you're fishing in are likely to be. With chopping wood and mining rocks, you're not dealing with something that's alive.

Isnt it always the same "sweet spot" to target the same fish over and over? And the rod moving location always the same? That way it isnt the normal way a fisherman normally fishes since its random the catch unless ur fishing in a place where only 1 kind of fish is out there!
