x2 to 4 of hard-disk space - PS3 limitations?
x2 to 4 of hard-disk space - PS3 limitations?
Length of Day is just how fast the planet rotates, and years rotation of the planet around the sun.
So they may just live 1000's of their years but it being the same as a human lifespan or more or less...
Anyway, seasons are based on the title of the planet and the speed it orbits the sun.
and if the planet hs a big wobble too then that would effect seasons.
So the planet may not have seasons as we do.
The seasonal events also could be every X game years based on some variation where its DD/MM/?(in game year)?/YYYY (basic example) as thier is no reason to say they have exactly the same system as earth.
So each game year could be say 1/2 of a seasons meaning we get 18 days of it giving us say 8 seasons (4 main and then 4 changeover seasons) so 2.5 cycles of the seasons each real year.
Seasonal events could be based on solar events not seasons so that works better with lore an so on.
And that's enough geek anyway.
Clearly I'm pro this idea lol...
I would love to see it effect mobs, and us create status effects, winter in a desert zone = chill effect, spring/summer in BS = damp status (electrical attacks hurt more) an so on
Spawn seasonal special mobs, effects weather to a point (blizzards).
many many fun (and many many annoying but fun) things could be done.
Edit: Seasonal changed could be something as simple as colour pallet changes and more of X weather type i guess, and i think it would need to effect the city's as much as the rest of the zones.

Yes I am also hoping that ARR won't have that magical anti-weather field in towns like 1.0 has!I love this idea + weather effects in town I love the rain and snow... I always wished games would add more transitioning weather effects but quite bummed out not many did... always remember sitting in the rainy zones in FFXI just listening to the rain fall... I LOVE THE RAIN WHAT CAN I SAY!!! x__x/ weather = important to me.... and Fog would be epic too... epic foggy morning while riding on choco back along the coast @_@/
Please give us rain and stuff in the city along with Seasonal changes SE^^
its as simple as retexturing current assets and having those assets load during certain season or when the atomic clock in the server says to.
but 4 seasons, 4 sets of assets. depending how deep they want to go with it could most certainly take this game all they way to 60gb easy.
That be the problem with consoles they limit gaming to much once they are a year or so old.
60gb-120gb is nothing these days (even slowly starting to get that way with SSD's now) but for a PS3 player it's could be an issue i maybe.
Though tbf if it is, just have it as a PC only perk for us,, same as DX11 till the PS4 and so on.
We shouldn't be penalised cos we have better toys.!

To the PS3 comment.
Just like weathers they can turn down the effects on the ps3 - perhaps if they had real time snow build for the PC but its too much for the ps3 so instead the zone gets snowy in stages as you zone in/out, and skips stages at certain threshold times (havent zoned in for an hour+ so skip the stages and jump straight to were its supposed to be for PC players).
PS3/PC dont have to have the exact same visuals so long as the same interactive content is available.
And with memory problem you can change color / add filters without creating a whole new model. And you can also reuse the same model structure even if you did change textures. Its not that bad - you are not recreating the whole entire entity, just perhaps real time modifying or select parts.

3d assets don't take even nearly that much space not even in the worst case scenario.its as simple as retexturing current assets and having those assets load during certain season or when the atomic clock in the server says to.

You don't necessarily have to create new content to evoke a season. Just by tinkering with the hue and saturation of the existing textures via post-processing inside the engine (--> no additional files) you can already change the feeling of a map drastically. Of course you can't turn grass into snow, but you can still make it look cold and wintery for example.
I'd definitely welcome it, even if it's only subtle!
You just HAD to bring grass into this.
I kid, I kid.
