we did have a winter in the cities once, would be cool if the entire enviroment changed with the seasons. But whats to say the eorza seasons are like earth seasons. A winter may come only every 4 years, with a short spring/thaw into a long summer, and instead of fall you get crazy dusty wind who knows.. but having any type of seasonal change would be cool
This would be neat. As it works now, it's roughly one real hour per game day, so it'd take about 15 real days to cycle through a whole year. Some may argue that the world might change at too rapid of a pace though since seasons will last roughly 4 real life days.Seasons would be a neat way to influence new mobs and enemies during said seasons. Similarly to how Final Fantasy XII handled the Giza plains. Though the quests in said area would have to be fairly dynamic if seasons change midway through your quest, or something. I can see that as being an inconvenience. On the other hand, it encourages you to explore this area while you wait for the previous season to return.
Being that the turnaround is so quick though, you could put in quests that rely on it being a certain seasonal period. It can also stimulate the economy by certain drops being related only to monsters that appear during certain seasons, so you have to do some planning if you need a certain item. (I'm NOT however asking for 4 day pop NM/HNM with drops that are required for character growth. Only drops from regular monsters) As Ruisu pointed out this might be viewed as inconvenient, but I think it's a cool concept.
Actually, with their new color ID system for equipment, they should be able to apply this to their texture too you'd think.
this would be nice, BUT knowing SE they made the game in a way where making color changes to the textures impossible and they would have to rebuild the whole games textures & shaders from scratch.
Ironically, FFXI had seasonal changes too, they were subtle enough that even XIV should be able to manage.
YES PLEASE! ^^ this would be so cool~~ i think this would make 2.0 even more beautiful! if thats possible :P lol.
come on Yoshi-P do this!!!!! PLEASE!![]()

reminds me of the AION traileri never experienced this unfortunatley..
AION Seasons
but how often should the season change? i really dont want to have almost all zones snowy white at the same time ;XD
Obviously winter looks different in different parts of the world. I really feel they could just keep adding these to the zones permanently instead of just superficial seasonal events.reminds me of the AION traileri never experienced this unfortunatley..

Seeing snow fall for the first time in a year would be magical if it coincided with the turn of seasons in the real world. I just hope their textures are mapped in a smart way (not all clumped together) for edits like these to be easy.
Having few season specific nm's would only make this idea even cooler. Maybe seasonal spring benefits from certain food?
Think about it. The possibilities for hidden depth are literally endless.
We already have one form of these suggestions in one form or another (seasonal events, time specific spawns, etc).
Seasons would be cool - would apperciate it more if like that Aion video linked by Tonkra you can watch the change happen.
Only thing I'd like to remind SE of is that each zone should have its own season time table (tropical area would have longer summers and springs then winter, and you would likely never see snow - or it would turn to water before hitting the ground). If you consider frozen lakes and such you could even open up / close shortcuts or fun achievement/vista areas on season changes.
It would be good to consider as well to keep the environment varied (at different stages) so not every where has the same color pallete from lightning and environmental changes.
