you don't know that you're supposed to get out of fire? are you really being told what to do?
from my perspective it looks like it's largely a matter of presentation.
and even if it weren't a matter of only presentation (if you are indeed getting some kind of hints), where would the value added data come from? from another player.
how would they find out? from testing without the aid of the addon. it amounts to essentially the same thing as you watching a video and reading a guide, finding out what every text cue means, and then reading the combat log. same story, different presentation.
and in the end, you can choose not to use it. you can also choose not to watch guides. if your ls doesn't like it, you can choose to join a ls that doesn't care. just as you can choose not to filter or read your filtered combat log, and join a ls that doesn't care that you do this. it's really the same situation as you have now, with the separation of a difference in presentation

welll it doesn't really give you any advantage over someone who already knows how to do those things, so I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I also wouldn't need it.ARR is going to have user created addons so if someone made a deadly boss mods type addon to help out on FFXIV boss fights would you use it?
The addon would do stuff like alert you when the boss is about to use a devastating attack, tell you when something should be stunned, tell you to move ahead of time or if your standing in something bad. Have timers for when bosses special moves become available. Those type of things, all done by analyzing the battle log.
I wouldn't need it, but if someone makes it I will use it.

This is how I feel when I read posts on these boards:
i doubt se is capable of making a boss encounter that someone might want dbm forARR is going to have user created addons so if someone made a deadly boss mods type addon to help out on FFXIV boss fights would you use it?

I'd use it.
When I played WoW, DBM was more of a reminder than anything. It was nice being able to look around, see the work that had been put into the area I was playing in, or being able to track things outside of my immediate job. While it wasn't absolutely necessary to preform my given role, it did enhance my experience nonetheless.

I would use it, but as an LS leader would I require it? hell no.

oh man I forgot about the add-on stuff.. I really hate that.. I hated it in the little bit of time I played WOW.. I want to play the game not start as scripting information on my screen constantly.. you get enough of that in the text box itself
