Reason why I wouldn't see ARN is because how close it reflects upon ARC. People made general confusions about Goldsmith and Gladiator that SE had to change the abbreviation for it, remember? It used to be GLA > Gladiator, GLD > Goldsmith. Players often confused equipment designed for Gladiators as something that could be used for Goldsmith. Now I know Archer doesn't have an "n" in the spelling but considering how close the abbreviations are to one another it's still bound to cause confusions. ARC, ARN. I might be wrong and they'll use it anyway, but I guarantee you there will no doubt be complaints or fusses because somebody bought a robe then realized it was for ARN, and not ARC.

Though, I suppose the same could happen anyway with ACN, still I feel that might have a lesser chance of confusion than having the last letter of two completely opposite disciplines being the only difference.

I've never seen Goldsmith abbreviated that way and I've played since beta. I've always seen players use GSM.

the abbreviations are made from the first 3 letters of jobs and classes depending upon how they are pronounced. Example:

    ARca-Nist = ARN
    Pu-Gi-List = PGL
    DRa-Gon = DRG
    etc.....

Is this seriously still a discussion? It's ACN. It's in the .dats, and it was scanned over two years ago.

Yes, Localization still reserves the right to change things come release (CON -> CNJ, GLD -> GSM, GLA -> GLD), but seriously, who cares?

That was disproven actually, especially since scanning the dats personally there's zero traces of anything close to a few of those listed classes, also why would 'Adventurer abbreviate to 'SPN' in English? I highly doubt SE ninja'd them out but left Shepherd and Arcanist in there all this time. ;p

The following class abbreviations have been changed:
    • GLD → GSM
    • CON → CNJ
    • TAN → LTW
Goldsmith used to be GLD until they changed it to GSM. That was because there had been a lot of confusion about what gear people could use for what class. I don't feel like doing a search through the forums for examples but incidents did exist where people would refer to Gladiator as GLD and wanted Goldsmith to be GSM or some other abbreviation. I've always called it by its name (GLD and GLA.) and so did others back then in my LS but I still saw people referring to Gladiator as GLD instead of GLA.

    "Ding! 23 GLD!"
    "Congrats, you're leveling gladiator?"
    "No, Goldsmith."
