well, either an app for phone with required internet, or a device which has the abilithy to use mobile network in the area for a small increase of your monthly subscription or something. But if its offline, its hackable, no matter how secure the system is, its still just a bunch of numbers.

I had this really cool dream, and I have no idea if this would actually work, but I'll share with you, because I think it would be cool if it was something they could do.

I had a dream that there was a handheld device you could buy, and you could use it to raise your chocobos even while you're away from the main game.

It worked like this:

You take an egg or a chocobo of any age to an NPC, who will hold it and give you a code. You use that code on the device, and that egg or chocobo in its current state will be created in the device.

You can then carry it around where ever and play with it and raise it on the go, with minigames and such, sort of like a tamagotchi, except that it was a bit more sophisticated than that.

When you're finished raising your chocobo remotely at whatever point, you can then have the device remove the chocobo from the device and give you a code, which you then use at the NPC to retrieve your chocobo.


Personally, I would buy and use such a thing. Would you?


*EDIT: To explain further, the chocobos would have codes which would work to uniquely link them to your device, as well as to generate a particular chocobo. (preventing you from giving your chocobo to other people, and making your progress translate into the main game)
This could possibly allow for chocobo hacking, but they would need to find some kind of counter-measure for that. I personally do not know of one.

*EDIT2: Something cool to fit it into the lore would be...you could generate a free chocobo-raising retainer when you get the device. He doesn't store items, all he does it raise the chocobo. When you give him the egg, he pretends he's going to raise it, so you're essentially playing AS your retainer while you raise your chocobo on the device. And maybe he's paranoid, and the code is a 'secret password' to get your chocobo back from him/her, lol.

Well this thread isn't about apps in general, nor about something which should be limited to 'apps' at all.
I'd like something which can be used and enjoyed by people who DON'T necessarily have smartphones.

Like a Tamogachi... but for the chocobo... make the device shaped like a chocobo egg... make it kweh when it wants your attention, make it so the kwehing can be silenced (you know what I mean, sitting up in class, random beeping going on, ugh!)
Make it so you can battle your chocobo for training/extra rewards. Make it cost 9.99-19.99 and not a penny more...

I'd say go app, a device is going to be either every basic or rather expensive to do and time consuming.
(an if its touch screen it'll take ages to do and not end up getting an apple lawsuit over some random stupid thing that no one really cares about but...)

It's probably going to need to constantly poke the net as well (again adding to the cost if its a stand alone device), simply to avoid any cheating or file editing if the raising part has any effect on the chocobo.
Would be simple enough to do though, but id prefer their to be a benefit to doing it over it just being a mini game to kill time alone.

It could also have a browser based version for those don't have access to a smartphone.

This could actually work pretty well, could have it similar to raising dream eaters in KH 3D, just chocobo themed. :P

I would go for this as well. A totally separate chocobo raising game which can double to raise our XIV chocobos, would rock beyond measure.

Back in the day Final Fantasy VIII had something like this, I don't remember all the details because it was a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure I remember them releasing a tamagotchi type thing to go along with FFVIII that could plug into the ps memory card slot and you could do something or another with it.

I loved playing this, before I knew what cheat devices were, the battery was never really good enough though and would only last a month maybe ^^; The interaction between game and pocketstation was cool for its era, so many of these same elements can be included in a 14 app with low resource to play the game outside of any hardware-required tasks eg battles, storyline, quests etc. the production costs won't be as high as creating, say, a PS3 Vita port which is hardware, software maybe, business partnerships and financial liability - who would buy a Vita just for a secondary app where the actual title isn't available on? App can be done in-house as another quick side project across multiple web accessing platforms. *May also attract new business!
