Handheld Chocobo Breeding

I had this really cool dream, and I have no idea if this would actually work, but I'll share with you, because I think it would be cool if it was something they could do.

I had a dream that there was a handheld device you could buy, and you could use it to raise your chocobos even while you're away from the main game.

It worked like this:

You take an egg or a chocobo of any age to an NPC, who will hold it and give you a code. You use that code on the device, and that egg or chocobo in its current state will be created in the device.

You can then carry it around where ever and play with it and raise it on the go, with minigames and such, sort of like a tamagotchi, except that it was a bit more sophisticated than that.

When you're finished raising your chocobo remotely at whatever point, you can then have the device remove the chocobo from the device and give you a code, which you then use at the NPC to retrieve your chocobo.

(Or could connect to the net long enough to transfer the chocobo back and forth)


Personally, I would buy and use such a thing. Would you?


*EDIT: To explain further, the chocobos would have codes which would work to uniquely link them to your device, as well as to generate a particular chocobo. (preventing you from giving your chocobo to other people, and making your progress translate into the main game)
This could possibly allow for chocobo hacking, but they would need to find some kind of counter-measure for that. I personally do not know of one.

*EDIT2: Something cool to fit it into the lore would be...you could generate a free chocobo-raising retainer when you get the device. He doesn't store items, all he does it raise the chocobo. When you give him the egg, he pretends he's going to raise it, so you're essentially playing AS your retainer while you raise your chocobo on the device. And maybe he's paranoid, and the code is a 'secret password' to get your chocobo back from him/her, lol.

I get the idea...but that would raise the technology level significantly and XIV isn't a sci-fi MMO xD. The best you could do is use a linkpearl and tell them how to raise your chocobo while you're away and that's already kinda pusing it from a logical stand point.

Why would it make XIV a sci-fi MMO? I don't understand. The NPCs don't have to pretend you're raising it 'offworld', they could say something else. They don't need to SAY the code, just have it give it to you in bluetext.
Also, it kinda IS a sci-fi MMO (magitek?).

Edit: Heck, they could pretend they're giving it to your retainer to raise.

Or better yet... *ill edit the main post for this*

Sure, as long as a physical device was also an option, lol.... I don't own a phone that can use 'apps' (i'm not 'into' phones), so if they restricted it to an app, I wouldn't even be able to use it, lol. And I'm not going to pay an arm and a leg for a new phone and phone plan just to remotely raise a chocobo.

Being a potential chocobo breeding fanatic, this is something i could really get behind~


- I'd like to see this also available on browsers, for people who don't have access to the app, might make for a family friendly game to share with your children too.

- Raising them portably should be less effective than raising them in game imo, otherwise people won't walk all the way to the NPC ingame, and would use the app 24/7 for breeding.

I would love to see some kind of chocobo-breeding-app with which you can work on your chocobo.....but i think that exceeds SEs capabilities ><

As long as an iPhone or other such expensive device isn't required, I support this. I'm also not into phones. I don't want to be that guy who goes out with friends, but is giving his phone more attention that anyone else he's with, you know the type. So annoying and disrespectful!

As a counter measure to manipulation, each device would need to operate on an algorithm similar to the key-fob that came with the CE. It's a common security counter measure and could be implemented easily.

This sounds just like the Chao in Sonic Adventure with the VMU, which was a feature I enjoyed. I also enjoy raising chocobos, so I'm in full support of this.
