Why is FFXIV so unpopular?

I wonder just what SE is going to do to try to lure back the deluge of players that just quit after the first few months after game release. Or are they just going to sweep that under the rug and hope to get a fresh new crop of players?

They wouldn't like doing it, but if they really believe they have a successful game this time, they could promote it better by allowing more initial gametime. Most copies come with 1 month right? so make it 2, so it seems a little more worth the shot at buying it and gives them a little more time to decide if they want to stick to it for years to come after.

That would motivate at least me to try more mmos if they came with a longer try before you pay package.
Also what you're saying makes sense if it really is improved to the point of being as fun as other MMOs then there shouldn't be doubts to that approach.
