Addition of gradual petrification.
Yes that version of petrification seen many times in the ff series, two kinds of petrification, gradual and instant two tiers in a way. Gradual would give you a timer and reduce your stats/slow your attack rate as the timer got closer and closer to 0 at which point you would become completely petrified. This gives players a chance to pre-empt the effect with a gold needle.

Give petrification a frailty effect for example FFX. Bassically petrification turns you to stone and leaves you vulnerable to attack so if another player doesnt cure you of the ailment quickly an attack from an enemy would instant kill/do alot more damage to you than it normally would.

Would you shatter and be ejected from the instance if hit with enough damage when in petrified state?
Petrification has no duration. Its a permanent effect that can only be cured 1 of 3 ways.
1: death.
2: cured via items of curative spells.
3: return.
Shattering would be nice =P though i can imagine being ejected from the instance could be rather frustrating... so i guess that would be up to SE to balance if they were to do that.

Being killed by petrification results in being ejected from your current instance. (Like it if you want it)

I dont know.. Considering this game is sliding towards casual play, being ejected from an instance seems harsh for this playing style.Shattering would be nice =P though i can imagine being ejected from the instance could be rather frustrating... so i guess that would be up to SE to balance if they were to do that.

It wouldnt be impossible to balance against like not handing out aoe petrify to bosses that spam aoe attacks and giving tanks ways to resist it's effects but i do agree with you that its harsh. Up to the forum users what they like though.
they need to add and re-work the classical FF ailments.
