    Dear Squeex: Will the patcher be updated at 2.0

    Just sitting here again with the patcher; I imagine the patch is relatively small, 20 megs, but it has been over 30 minutes since I started patching as the patcher utilizes a whole 2.1KB of my connection.

    I'm please looking forward to this, for 2.0; make sure you get it right.

    I really wanna know how they got it wrong. It's a torrent based download which, IMO, is one of the best p2p down-loader. I personally use utorrent, and it will work to download patches if you know where to place the download patch before running FFXIV. My biggest irk is that the down-loader is p2p and when you finish the DL, it's closed runs the patch and then afterwards deletes the patch. If you want to use a p2p down-loader don't do the patch-delete thing, p2p is meant for many clients to receive and send data, it's why I can download a 1gig file in less then 5 mins.

    I'm hoping to see a change to this as well. It's frustrating to to sit at 0 kb/s for a half hour or more, then get maybe 15~60 kb/s for five minutes or so, then go back to 0 for another half hour. My DSL connection isn't ridiculously fast, but I can usually dl a 250 MB file in about an hour, so why should it take upwards of six hours to dl a Patch that's slightly smaller?

    We had a word with the UI team in regards to the launcher for A Realm Reborn. We'll be creating a brand new launcher and when compared to the current version's launcher where download speeds were in constant flux, the speeds will be equalized and depend on the specs of the PC you are using. So rest assured that this new launcher will be very efficient when it comes to patching.

    Yey. The old patcher and launcher were very archaic and pretty glitchy.

    I really, really, really hope that by "PC" they meant "connection". Because the reason current patcher underperforms is flooding the upload of asymmetrical connections (ADSL), thus making sending ACK packets for the download slow to impossible. It's certainly not the fault of my CPU/GPU.

    IMHO, they should make a patcher which uses HTTP as it's primary source and use P2P as an additional source, giving you an option to continue seeding (otherwise you might as well kill the P2P part). For example, people living in dormitories can't use torrent because it's blocked by the university. Then there are ISPs that are explicitly looking for P2P packets and slowing them down to 1kb/s (so called traffic shaping).
