Yeah, I 2nd this. Sky should EPIC this time around and grand! A floating city & palace in the clouds where you can also look down to the realm but also look up to see the moon and the stars. (and maybe a comet)I think they should make sea/underwater content before the sky. Because it's the classic FF progression and the sky should be the last goal for an adventure imo (before reaching the moon of course XD).
Also underground content, like dwarf realm in ff4, could be interesting as well.

Lol I still remember fighting with people over when to enter Kirin, whether it was even or odd seconds. Just a super fun experience all around because there were always puzzles, which lever to press, which entrance to go to, etc. Byakko is an example, and the trigger farming was a cool concept. I liked being able to see all the different monsters, the cut scenes and all the challenges.
Hopefully Crystal Tower comes close to what represents SKY in most people's minds, but I eventually wish for a floating island just for the visual effect of seeing this world from a new perspective. With all the flying machines in this game, it makes the most sense as far as new content. (Doubtful that anyone would care if byakko, kirin (kirin essentially was because he had his own chamber), etc were actually instanced fights, people mainly want to explore and solve puzzles)
I loved sky/sea but it's not because of rose tinted glasses, it's because of the actual mechanics behind the zones that made them interesting. First experiences with the zones always left impressions (like the first UFO aggro, the goldfish chasing you, etc)

Maybe not identicle but very inspirational "Star Wars feel" to it.
or old-fashion high-fantasy

Ya, I think when talking about sky they don't mean the content of SKY(XI) itself but rather an environment which takes place in the sky and requires airships to access. The sky of XIV will most likely be a large region which one is able to explore using a personal airship with the potential of airship battles which could be fun if implemented properly. If anything the content of sky could be the creation of the Dalamud Disaster which could expand further on what Dalamud is and even more secrets behind it. Or they could make it a self contained region that mysteriously appeared one day lol. Though of course they got to get 2.0 out the door before they can even implement sky sea or any of that expanded content lol. While they prolly do have an idea of where they would like to take said content it would prolly be a yr or two before we see anything like sky.

Tu'lia is one of the most beautiful zone in Final Fantasy XI. It was also one of the most difficult zone to reach, as you had to do a lot of work to gain access to Tu'lia.
A similar concept to that of Tu'lia would be fantastic for FFXIV, as it's been one of my long time favourite zone in the game.

The only other thing I'd like to see apart from a new version of sky (visually/conceptually) would be either an actual floating town (cool) or perhaps a flying Garlean Fortress - similar to the Bahamut in FF12.
It'd sure make for an epic setting to do battle with Gaius. The Ru'Aun Gardens was by far my favorite zone in XI ever. Al'tieu (and the Empyral Paradox) were kinda neat as well, but Sky was just pure win aesthetically. Though, I'd like to see them try and come up with something a little more clever than simply a v2.0 of the Zilart.
Maybe a Palace that was dedicated to the 12? O.O or even Bahamut's Lair or something? For some reason I'm thinking of the giant castle in the sky now from FF1 where Tiamat was...

Our beginning should start in Sky. "We are the Warriors of Light descending from the mystical "City in the Clouds"! We're here to save the princess and all the world"(this time for sure) :P

we need a sky with all the eorzea gods there as bosses.
Ive mentioned sky/sea several times but not so much for the NM's i guess, its more so the way you got to fight these "Gods", it wasnt just walking up to an instance and your there, done, then very low drop rates. Sky/sea had pop items that you farmed, and many of these pop items were 100% drops, it could be done with a very large amount of people, no actual cap on the amount actually and do it somewhat fast, you also had the option of solo/duoing on some of them if you log on and felt like farming, though it took much longer. From the gods were nice gear that had fairly high drop rates (atleast compaired to 14).
Idk... I just prefered "farming" a pop set then getting higher drop rates on the kills that mattered, even had the option to buy pop items and not farm at all (did a decent amount of that). I honestly dont see things like this in instances being fun in any way, mainly because instances, atleast so far in this game, force you to have a certain party size, which defeats the whole purpose for me.
I personally liked the idea of NM's and any form of competition, I think the OP is over-selling it a bit on the amount of competition, maby not in the first few months after release, but it didnt last like that forever, same as any new content, I see the same thing fighting over instances.
I wouldn't mind a zone that is awe-inspiring not only because it looks amazing and has tons of content in it. But also requiring players to earn the right to be there...
But you know MMO players these days, if it's not holding you by the hand strining you along the specially leveled zones it's too hard.
