Gameplay > Graphics
But that doesnt mean you have to give up one for the either - its not a "pick one" kind of thing. I pick both, aww yeah I'm greedy but I dont care - I'm paying for it lol.

Obviously anyone would pick both... That's not what they mean when they say gameplay over graphics.
Gameplay is more important in the long run because without good gameplay, you loose subscribers, graphics aren't going to keep them playing.
The point is, the graphics have taken a hit, in order for game play to succeed. Example, displaying more characters on screen, doing more with the environment, etc..
Besides, FFXIV in ARR will still be the leading MMO in graphics on the market, even after its hit. So, you kind of are getting both given the situation.

Gameplay didnt keep all these players going through launch till now :P. I'm pretty sure the graphics and being fans of SE did that lol.Obviously anyone would pick both... That's not what they mean when they say gameplay over graphics.

But I agree good gameplay is extremely important to the longevity of the game in an entire timeline scene. However since FF isnt going for a stylized look its really important they dont mess up their fantasy realism.
Which is exactly why they are overhauling the game and in tern--> the graphics, because they NEED more players.Gameplay didnt keep all these players going through launch till now :P. I'm pretty sure the graphics and being fans of SE did that lol.

Unfortunately(especially at this point), not everyone is fans of SE and players aren't going to pay for a game that only looks good =/.

Actually, gameplay is what got people to start playing. Once it wasn't a complete absolute pile of shit, people started coming back. 1.18-1.21 was when most of the changes to the way the game plays were made. Majority of people came back with 1.21 because of the implementation of jobs.
