The only thing people should be able to buy in-game with real money is cosmetic stuff, like a hat with a FF logo on or a t-shirt with Yoshi-P on and things like that but nothing that would give them an advantage over other players. If this was a F2P MMO then maybe, but since everyone pays a monthly fee then like I said, only cosmetic things.

This is pretty much my thoughts on it, too.

If you have the luxury of being to afford to buy cosmetic/vanity things like novelty hats or new patterns/colors for your equipment then by all means do so. There's no reason why any person should not have the option to increase their own enjoyment of the game (if that's how you roll). But when said person can gain an advantage over other players, simply because they happen to be better off in real life, it isn't enjoyable for the rest of us who can't even if it is for said person. Not only that but it can only aim to further segregate players based on their real life circumstances, and that's already evident with regards to geographical location, work patterns etc, and allows those better off people to have more control on how everyone else plays the game (which also is seen with the self proclaimed "elite" variety of players).
