I'll be brutally honest. I did not discover the subtleties of the current battle system for months. Now that I have it's like the game completely opened up to me in a very enjoyable way. Now the unfortunate thing is, I have my main class at R47 now, and completed all but the final (current) story mission.

Where a fault may lie in SE's design is that it takes too long too learn the depths of the system and take advantage of it. I like to consider myself fairly adept at gaming, coming from the earlier generation of gamers (AKA I started gaming on the NES). Despite my enjoyment for all things gaming, it did seem to take a long time to learn this system. If I recall correctly (and unfortunately this puts me in the good things from XI club), you were forced to learn to take advantage of the FFXI battle system by rank 20 or you were completely crushed. That is with auto attack too I might add.

It looks like Auto-Attack coming whether I like it or not. I hope that Auto-Attack is added in such a fashion as to take advantage of the current system, and to tweak the current system so that the effects are more profound. Maybe this would enable players to learn and take advantage of it sooner, and thus making their experience more enjoyable.

The problem is the people who currently enjoy the game is not enough to make this game a success. So radical changes need to be done in order to attract more players.

Whatever the people currently in love with the game cry and wrist. Is what it needs to be done.

I completely agree that changes need to be made. It shouldn't take a person 5 months before they learn how to play. Especially if they are aiming to gain some of the "casual gamers." I'm hoping though that some of the good things about the system, such as it's depth are not forgotten but put into the spotlight.

Regardless of the fact I currently enjoy the game in it's current form, many do not. As such I'm glad SE is trying to address this.

^This, and I've said it a million times. Square-Enix is not a non-profit corporation... We all need to keep that in mind.

But if everyone after understanding the gameplay are having fun there must a reason...
Isn't it better to improve it so that you can enjoy it early rather than doing it from scratch?

Who is everyone ?You know my best game for me could be the biggest piece of **** for you.Is all about numbers. If people dont like the system they dont like it and devs will change it.The game like it or not goes around the battle system ,and many people dislike it.

If enough people were playing now that would be the case, (what you said) but unfortunately is all about numbers. They need to reach a wider audience. Besides , like i said before.is not whatever they gonna introduce AA or not . Is how they introduce it that will make the difference.

Try to ask someone in game, I know really a few people that are in favor of AA.
You're talking about numbers, it's true, most of the people asked for major changings in the poll, most of the people were asking for AA in the forums, but it's a fact that only a really small percentage of who bought the game is playing now.
The large majority of those playing are enjoying the battle system as it is (though it needs tweakings) but they weren't in the beginning, they enjoy it after coming to understand how it works, wich took a long time.

So it's not about different tastes, everyone experienced the same issues at the beginning, everyone thought the game was spammy and the battle system didn't have any sense, but while the large majority gave up and started whining, some people went on playing (because of friends, trust in SE or whatever) and now most of them think those issues doesn't exist and are only the first impression.

So here's the numbers: large majority is whining without knowing everything, small parcentage came to understand the gameplay and is playing and enjoying the game and only a few of them spend their time in the forums.

People are complaining that the game is spammy and it's false; that you have to do tons of normal attacks in order to perform a WS and it's false, you have a lot of skills for TP management; that the game doesn't have any tactic and it's false; that if you spam normal attacks you're more valuable than doing WS/Abilities and it's false...
These are just the first impressions we all had at the first ranks. I myself didn't enjoy the game before rank 30 and went through rank 1 to 40 spamming normal attacks and only after months of playing realized how wrong it was.

In this scenario it seems to me that the best and quicker solution is to make the gameplay more intuitive, to make it understandable and enjoyable from the first ranks. Scrapping everything means they have to do it from the roots, wich takes too much time (something they don't have) and huge risks: a completely new battle system will involve possiple bugs and imbalances, it's not like it's gonna be perfect with the first patch, I bet there will be tons of fixes, just look at the alpha>beta battle system, after all this time it's still far from perfect... On the other hand, improving what we already have means that you have a base to work on and it can't be worse.

Sure how they will implement AA is important, it could still be a great game, but the current BS gave to the game certain tactics that are really unique and just can't work with any AA and it's a pity to see them scrapped (I was an archer in every mmo I've ever played and FFXIV's one has the best archer gameplay I've ever seen and it's all due to the lack of AA)

I understand what your saying but for me it was completely different.
You said you enjoyed the game at higher ranks , for me it was the complete opposite . I enjoyed the learning curve , after that it was all just meaningless.I didnt feel the spam buttons people speak off until when i started other classes, or later on gladi. The battle system to me is really not engaging , and i have played enough to know what i like and what i dont.

You say it is not but the truth it is about taste.I find absolutely no strategy in our current battle system . Compared to every MMO i have played up till this day.I have high hopes this will change around , but is how i feel currently.
Im sorry for everyone who does in fact enjoy the game right now. But in order to ffxiv be able to charge a monthly payment they need more players than what currently have .

AA can be dope in multiple ways, leaving the battle system as it is is pushing potential customers away.

I would not pay to play this game.I was going to in release, but after 6 months playing it .Is the conclusion i came up with.

Here (and in your previous posts) you are assuming that people who want an auto-attack are either too stupid to understand the game or lazy.

There is another way of seeing it: people who actually enjoy the current system play enough to reach higher ranks while the others get bored after a while (most of times somewhere between rank 20 and 30) and wait for the battle system to improve before starting to play intensively again.

And adding auto-attack is not "doing it from scratch".
