Totally agree there. WoW was really a nice game when it was released, but every single expansion made the game easier to attract a wider public. WoW did exactly what FFXI is doing now.Actually, seeing as how WoW was partially based off the FFXI playstyle (which was in turn similar to the EQ playstyle, which WoW also based itself off), there are similarities. Though over time, WoW destroyed itself by making bad decisions in an attempt to attract a wider demographic and alienated a large portion of gamers.
I think the point is, we don't want to see FFXI-2 and we don't want to see FF: the WoW Chronicles. They are not mutually exclusive man.
A lot of people use the party search feature... it works just fine.I'm so excited about this, I might actually come back.
But there is one problem still...
No one uses the party search feature because its not effective as currently designed.
How has this not been brought up yet lol.
People will still be walking around soloing just because they cant find a party with that search feature as it is right now ;/
I like the fact that that they have advised just auto attacking will not win big fights. I can deal with the auto attack since I am always at my keyboard anyway though I would prefer it to be a toggle feature. Perhaps it is not possible. Decreased delay between attacks - that sounds great. That was my other concern but others had stated it repeatedly - was no point in me adding to the pile.
I am with you Nuru - unique system for the win. =)
I wonder if they will revert to the old auto attack system that was in place during alpha and just fix that up a bit.
Thats a dangerous thing to say."we will make sure it’s balanced so you can’t win a fight just by using auto-attack."
How will he pull that off?
I'm thinking it'll be like... once the mob's HP hit 0 you'll need a fincher move al la God of war?
No, what he means is that you won't be able to just stand there and use Auto-Attack and win a battle without using some of your other skills too. In other words, weapon damage, mob health, mob defense, mob evasion, and player accuracy will all be carefully balanced around the players actually using the skills their classes have available to them - and that difficult battles will never just be won by standing there and letting the game do all the work for you.
Oh you mean like all those single player games you listed that will take all the MMO playerbase away? Right I bet that had a TON to do with them making this announcement. Yes akihiko actually planned to keep manual attack, but then he say your post about how mortal kombat and a bunch of other single player games are stealing away 14's playerbase, so he quickly changed his mind to implement AA just in the last week. Don't expect a thanks from me, but by all means pat your own back pretending you by yourself are making a huge difference.I find the timing of the dev post very suspicious, and very much in line with my recent posts. I also find it interesting that it was posted somewhere that BelgianRofl has yet to post - Battle Environments.
Believe what you want, but that BelgianRofl character has a reputation with the developers. Unfortunately, it'd be suicide for them to reply in any of my threads or mention me at all.
Im looking forward to having more time to concentrate on other game systems rather than pressing 1, 1, 1, 1, 1.
Might actually be able to communicate with party members.
To everyone crying about change, id say the way SE are implementing things we are likely to see a toggle on/off.
Lets just wait and see.

Quick question that others may have better insight on.
How will auto-attack relate to 0 cost skills such as Heavy Strike, Full Thrust, Pierce etc? Right now these do have a place, be it not always in every fight. Occasionally it's nice to throw out a Heavy Thrust in order to temp bind a mob that is running all over the place. It seems to settle them down.
I guess they'll just scrap them, like they're doing with everything...Quick question that others may have better insight on.

Choosing a different attack is too much effort for lazy people.
