How Important Will The Marketing for ARR Be?

I have to say I am a little worried..

Before you say its pre-alpha etc in this day and age I think we will all agree BUZZ is the word. You have to create a buzz and you have to really push it out there for the people to start talking and thinking about it.

I remember reading an article about ARR being one of the most anticipated games of this year and in the comments almost each and every one of them were people confused, shocked or clueless.

I want the game to be a big success but my concern is that SE isnt putting a lot of effort into worldwide advertising.

I think they should at least wait until their done fixing all the basics of the game and the bugs first.

Well they do already have a full website up with a lot of information on it. I am just curious how they will go about stirring up the interest on the international market since they seem to be investing a lot of effort into regional servers.

When you get a bad rep, you can't simply market yourself with "promises." You have to appease to the ones who hurt the most 1st which are the fans. It's not a brand new game, although it's being redone. It's still gotten a lot of negative reviews to undo. There are a lot of players out there starved for a good game to come out and many players are waiting for 2.0 to join. Some are new & some are players who disliked the game at start. Some of the current players are even ambivalent about 2.0. Let's see how the game goes before we spend more $$ to market it hardcore. We need to back it with players enjoying & getting good reviews.

Any business must 1st appeal to their current clientele before expanding.

I think the marketing for this game needs to be a barrage of info and media shown everywhere to the point that there aren't gamers out there that DON'T know this game is relaunching (or possibly think it's even a new release). GameFAQs and GameSpot and IGN and any other sites that have full site-wide background images of a game as you browse their site - this needs to happen with FFXIV. The trailers and commercials for the game should be showing in as many media avenues as possible. Sponsor stuff; WWE has had "This episode brought to you by" previous Final Fantasy titles before, go ahead and do it again for this one. Hell, do a PPV, so it's mentioned two days a week for four weeks. And other such examples.

Like I said, it needs to be so apparent that everyone knows about it. As it is now, I'm quite sure there are people that don't even know about FFXIV 1.0.

Honestly I don't personally know anyone who is overly excited for ARR beyond current XIV players. I get more of a "yeah it looks cool, I'll try it but idk" vibe.

They obviously need to change general publics view on FFXIV. The majority of Final Fantasy fans still think FFXIV is a failed mmo and waiting to play VS 13, Lightning Returns FFXIII, or the eventual FFXV.

Any post on any major gaming site will bring out a bunch of negativity more then other games because people still remember FFXIV as that mmo that bombed.

One of the determining factors that will determine if they ever want to turn a profit on this game. Final Fantasy XIV has a very bad reception. They need websites on their side, positive word of mouth, good reviews, tv commercials and more.

For us? Not much, it only keeps us sane - or in the case of the recent video, insane.

For new players. Very important. Before launch they need some full on magazine pages, ign headers. Such like that.

People dont just magically find a game, they are told about it. And a lot of people were already told about FFXIV.

So they really need to be told again.
