    I don't remember any part of Final Fantasy XI being bright like you're saying, and I played it for 6+ years. I remember there being white sand, which is a lighter color than something like the green patches of grass, so it appeared brighter...but XI didn't have dynamic lighting. Characters didn't cast shadows on themselves like we currently have/will have.

    Well I do. I spent a crap ton of time in Valkrum.

    When you first entered the zone it was brightest. Then the contrast on the sand would reduce a little - but still maintain brightness. Like Valrum at night is not bright at all, but during the day its almost pure white. If you enter during the day from an outside zone that would happen.

    I also messed with a lot of the ini/registry information though so maybe my FFXI had higher settings then yours.

    They've admitted that the trailer showed old footage, they really need to show us something more current and then note what improvements they intend to make. I think most of us would shut up then or at least crab about something else for a while.

    Well, yeah...there was a different light at different times in the day...but 12:00 was always the same brightness everyday. Your eyes didn't adjust, the zone lighting changed per time change. You're talking about something like we currently have in Final Fantasy XIV where you run out from a room (such as the Merchant Strip in Limsa Lominsa), and it appears super bright outside until you go all the way out, and the light softens.

    No I'm talking if you zone into the dunes, its bright - and then the brightness goes down a little (unless its night time or w.e then it isnt bright of course).

    Yes brightness changes throughout the day as well, but thats not what I was talking about.

    But yeah they do have it a little in game right now (FFXIV 1.0) when you are in a dark area looking into a bright area. I like this effect.

    What Shougun says is true. Go log into XI and then zone into the dunes during the day. Watch what happens to the glare. This mimics how the eye actually works in bright sunlight.

    Yeah, I'm saying I literally never saw that. Valkurm was always "bright" to me because it was a light textured zone.
