Yeah characters look like reflective ghosts in the sun. Am a huge fan of the dynamic lighting from environment though, the shadows from the flora is fantastic looking.

Obviously from my first comment you can see I dont really think people should be light bulbs when the sun is out. I am very very very pale and even I dont glow like an Edward from Twilight.

Just thought of what it really looks like on the characters skin, it looks like someone has an infinite camera flash effect.

The chocobo feathers are changed, they are definitely missing some kind of smoothing/opacity effect - but perhaps the light is too harsh and thats the only other difference. The lighting should be an easy change though - I wouldnt be worried much if that was it.

Chocobo feathers, and other fur/hair like materials are still different though.

SE needs to put version numbers in their screenshots lol, anyway this photo has some pretty good looking Mithra hair for whatever version that gameplay is... (who knows.. lol):

Though it looks like their armor metal filter isnt done :P

i have written "the character is not effected by the light that much like with the new engine (for now, because alpha version) and thats the main reason why you call it cartoonish. for you the character seems to bright when being directly in the sunlight.

have you even watched the screenshots or understood what i have posted?

and great, that you have posted chocobo with plate armor which reflects the most

"when the charactes is directly in the sunlight he maybe seems just too bright. For your meaning "cartoonish" "

thats what i have written ... and also that these are screenshots from the last trailer, where yoshida stated, that it is earlier alpha footage than the trailers before. and that the shadowing and lightening was'nt finished yet.

as i already said.. and it depends

yes, a healthy amount of light for definition that doesnt desaturate and reduce all hint of texture quality/model structure.

For the so-called "improved lighting system", the character models in ARR don't actually even seem to respond to light properly. The metals don't glint in ARR like they do in current version. It looks very dulled. If you look at any screenshot of a Dragoon or Paladin, the metals seem very dull and flat. Furthermore, no matter which direction they face, there's almost no definition of the character's shape in response to the light. It seems like they're very flat. These are just observations.

There's problems in 1.0 too, such as in certain lighting conditions (i.e., night time), there is a loss of interesting lighting effects, but after 2 years you expect an improvement, not an obvious degradation of quality in certain areas.

By the way, these are just observations.

The assets used to create the trailer were actually older than what was shown during last week's Letter from the Producer Live. Also, depending on the area shown, the lighting, as well as hair, neck movement, and facial properties are still being adjusted.

    Also this:

Also, for all of our current players concerned about differences between hair, facial expressions, neck movement, and other aspects, we are still in the midst of increasing the quality of everything, so please check out the game videos starting with the alpha version and later.

Maybe I havent ever had this opportunity long term* - but I feel the camera is doing that and not real life.

I doubt my eyes are doing something no one else has.

If you were really there she wouldn't be so bright like that. Your eyes will auto adjust and remove the glare.

So if you jump out of your dark house and look at someone in the sun maybe its bright like that- but then it dims down (and stays down).

Actually this talk made me stumble back into thinking of Valkrum Dunes from FFXI.

They should add the auto adjusting to the game - so the ghost like skin that temporarily shows and fades down as if your eyes are adjusting.

If we dont get that option I would prefer non ghosting skin though. Ghosting is only captured in super intense harsh lights that are too strong for your eyes or in cameras.

seems you are not outside that much ^^

this truly can happen in the bright sun, and when you are people are pale enough the sun can reflect like that.

FFXIV 2.0. is using the core of the luminous engine. its not exactly the same, but you can see that they are related to each other.. as the developer says in that video.

    here

"it uses the core of the luminous engine"

I could say the same about you XD. The bright sun effect is only temporary unless the sun is -extremely bright (then looking anywhere will hurt your eyes)- but you can tell the sun is not because you can look at the shadows in your screenshots and they are not super dark.

Read what I updated too please:
