If alpha has been moved to improve it i'm happy.
The game has to be good even in alpha. Dear Yoshi, do as GW2 developer said:
"It's ready when it's finished", don't do the same mistake again.

It doesn't matter if the alpha goes as planned even if its late. If they want a polished release they need to have the content finished as well.
If it takes until a summer release so be it. It's their product and they have no obligation to rush it for any consumer.
^ this. Take as long as needed with the Beta cause you're only getting one last shot. This will be the final fantasy. It doesn't matter if the alpha goes as planned even if its late. If they want a polished release they need to have the content finished as well.

This is how I feel when I read posts on these boards:
Exactly as the above posters have said, they need to come out of the gates kicking and screaming with awesome.
They dont have room to get an ok run up. If they dont blow up the doors and bleed the fields they will likely have a similar reaction to what happened the first time FFXIV was released.
They are under a lot of pressure - and I'm sure everyone here feels for them; however, we also know that if they dont get it right - there is just going to be more devastation, possibly this time completely irreversible. (For 14 at least).
They already screwed themselves over by consciously choosing to un-innovate. And Yoshi says in interviews "it's a secret" everytime someone asks what's new/interesting about FFXIV.Exactly as the above posters have said, they need to come out of the gates kicking and screaming with awesome.

It's hard for it to be "like XIV 1.0" when they already have a "soild" base to work on at this present time, so by logic it would already be in a much better position at launch unless in the rebuild process they throw out everything XIV 1.0 did and rebuild from scratch and end up not making any deadlines, much like they threw away what they did with XI and well we know that history.
Though in reality people expect ARR to compete with MMOs the second it launches and that's near impossible to do because there could be so much content they add for launch but other MMOs, by time it launches, will already be x updates in and they can't keep up with it or the game will never be released lol, so at some point in time they'll have to bite a bullet and hope for the best because there's always going to be something at launch of an MMO that won't go well, we've seen it with all from either server stability, queue errors or long queue lines, so they have to eventually say "Well it's time" no matter the competition or the state of said competitors MMO content wise.
XIV will be looked at much more intently than anything but as said there's only so much they can do that they'll never meet expectations and just have to do what they can. We won't have a repeat of 1.0 unless they really drop the ball.
That is my fear. I hope SE is giving the FFXIV team all the resources they need. Halfassing it will waste their money and they might as well milk 1.0 as it slowly dwindles to a select few, then concentrate servers again - till it dies.

They uploaded a fixed version of that trailer. Looks much better.
They still used old resources - but yeah the lag being gone has helped. I think there would have been a negative reaction to it though even if they had it fixed the first time. There are a couple scenes that if you freeze frame - they look like 2003.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw080tAzrcQ&feature=plcp

They should have only shown the grid area as well XD.. that area is their best showcase so far. -Everyone- loves that area now.
It'd be tough for any areas to be as boring as the current areas are. Graphically they are pretty but they are also some of the most boring copypasta terrains I've ever seen in a MMO.
I personally think that it still looks like an upgrade. We haven't seen any extensive running around the other areas.
