Anyone grossed out of current battle theme song ?

Don't you feel there's too much "electric guitar" groove that doesn't match this fantasy world set-up ?

I mean the songs of the regions are final fantasy worth since I'm able to listen to them and feel like I was playing older ff games that spaced me out into the world but as soon as I engage in combat/initiate levequest it turn's me off like hell at the point that I have mute the music and play my own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce88u5Hf2bE

The song would be better off without it! Is it me or the whole final fantasy franchise turned into a jap pop rock fashion show since FF X-2 ? (excluding ffxi and ffxii)

    I miss the "orchestral" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkeCBwIEs1U&feature=related
or at some point "tribal" feel of FF

I would reply to your post but right now I'm too busy headbanging while listening Nail of the Heavens.

Yeah. I agree with OP. Some of the new music is awesome though.

It feels very Final Fantasy to me, however each Final Fantasy is very different in setting. Since they are drawing most of their influence from Final Fantasy VI and VII, I'd say the "electric guitar" fits perfectly.

Final Fantasy VI - Battle Theme (The Black Mages)

Final Fantasy VII - Boss Battle Theme (The Black Mages)

Both Final Fantasy VI and VII are set in more science fiction type settings, while Final Fantasy XIV is almost in a technology driven renaissance setting. I think the music fits the game very well, sounds very Final Fantasy, and its used appropriately. In Final Fantasy X the final fight had one of the heaviest songs I'd ever heard in a Final Fantasy game.

Final Fantasy X - Final Boss Battle Theme

Final Fantasy XI had a medieval style setting, and the soundtrack matched very well by giving it a grand adventure type feeling. It was the perfect match for their first fantasy MMORPG, and it worked great for Final Fantasy XI. I don't think that same music would fit the universe of Final Fantasy XIV, and even the current XIV soundtrack had to be modified because it wouldn't have fit the changes in A Realm Reborn. It all sounds great to me and helps drive emotion during combat and story sequences.

Indeed, if XI's battle music was anything, it was fitting for every situation, especially boss fights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmzrF...feature=relmfu This for example gives you that feeling you're fighting an otherworldly being, which you are..technically.

About the setting you speak of, I understand what you mean though I dont think electric guitar matches well with "renaissance" setting either. If we talked about renaissance, where we had conquerers and war was waged over religion the music would sound as much http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWwzXQ5RueI or maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SvEttR6HTY....At least that's what the www thinks about renaissance music...? Maybe I misundertood your opinion though, feel free to recap :P
