    It isn't about people not wanting to jump themselves, it is about not wanting everyone bunny hopping about.

    The majority of people in this thread, seem to be happy with the approach the OP suggested. I don't think it'd be fair on either side to go to one extreme or the other, and think a contextual based jump system would be a wonderful comprimise.

    It allows those who want to jump over small obstacles the choice to do so, and it prevents bunny hopping everywhere.

    You could design player-initiated jumping in such a way that bunny hopping is impossible, such as adding a substantial delay where you can't move after you land, for example.
