Free-jumping would kill the atmosphere of the game and take the "Final Fantasy" out of FFXIV.
I would hate to see everyone hopping around like frogs everywhere like some other games..

This is what I have been saying all along. Have jumping like FFXIII where there are highlighted hotspots to indicte an action or jump. It would make the XIV more interactive and easier to understand.
Anti-jump ppl would not have to have their fears realized by everyone jumping around obnoxiously. and Pro-jump ppl would get there new interactive abilities.
No you still can't jump anywhere, but it can be implemented in a controlled manner. This is good from a development standpoint because it can be tested easily and have less bugs in stake thst was not designed to have jumping in it in the first place.
Besides in patch 1.17 they made it so that low-Lying objects on the ground no longer cause collision. So those rocks pro-jumpers use is no longer an excuse now! Lol but yes those fences at Aeteryte points still force you to go around them instead of jumping over them. It's progress not perfection! ^_^
Boy thats distilliling the FFXIII feature down to it's bare essentials. It's unlikely there would be a series of jumPs lined up to achieve an autorun jump like you are saying. Are we forgetting a major system component here? The Stamina system? Make Jumping take a chunk of that away. simple. bunny-hopping solved. people certainly wont jump around while fighting with their stamina dropping heavily. make it take enough that at best you could perhaps do at most, 2 jumps after each other.
People say there's not enough world to be explorable by jumping. are we forgetting you can build on existing maps? why is was just this last update the dev team removed rocks from the world to make it easier to move.
Jumping has every right and possibility to be useful and increase immersion.
I also disagree with an ff13 jump feature. want to get to a camp with ledges in the way, set Auto-run and walk away and let your char deal with all the obstacles on their own while you go grab some snacks? no.
I am for it simply for the ability to have more acrobatic jumps that are unique to the situation. Like somebody mentioned, the Miq'ote in Ul'dah animation. Backflips would be fun to see in game. They could also make individual animations per race so that each race would look correct when jumping. Because a Roegedyn doing backflips would just look silly.
if they did add jump it would be motion captured, just like the rest of the game's animations. so dont count on seeing flips and spins lol. it'd also have weight, and realism, jumps would be slow. hardly distracting. There would be delay, your character would crouch slighty, jump, and then land, and get their footing and balance back. this is not like WoW's "BOINGBOINGBOINGBOING" not only the jumps would take longer to perform, they wont be spammable, and most likely be tied to the stamina bar.Boy thats distilliling the FFXIII feature down to it's bare essentials. Immature frogs jumping everywhere aside, would that bother you THAT much to have free jumping?
I, personally, would be very pleased to experience a free jumping feature in Final Fantasy XIV. I don't feel like it would kill the Final Fantasy atmosphere, Final Fantasy is not Final Fantasy because you can't jump. Jumping has been seen in many previous Final Fantasy, in Final Fantasy VII's movie, and I believe would be a great new addition to Final Fantasy XIV. Of course, there was no free jumping before, but Final Fantasy is also about adding new things with each new titles. I feel it is time free jumping comes into Final Fantasy. And, on a final note, the traditional "non-jumping" design of old Final Fantasy was partly due to technology limitations (that's why then, even in Final Fantasy 1, jumping is in cut-scenes).
EDIT: Don't be mistaken, I, too, dislike immature jumping frogs. However, I much prefer dealing with these frogs than having shackles at my feet preventing more freedom in the game. Plus, I doubt we'll see many immature frogs in FFXIV, it is not open world PVP like WoW (people keep jumping mainly to evade other player's attacks).

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
i'm sorry. what final fantasy atmosphere is there to destroy? i dont see iconic Whitemages/blackmages or chocobos, i dont see airships, i barely even see many iconic FF monsters around that much - nowhere near as much as all these new mobs based on real-world animals, correct me if i'm wrong but i havent seen Cid around anywhere either. i think about FF as we have atm is the victory theme and a few monsters and that currency is named "gil"
I don't see what your point is.i dont see iconic Whitemages/blackmages or chocobos, i dont see airships, i barely even see many iconic FF monsters around that much
"Because currently there are not "enough" iconic FF-esque things, jumping should be implemented in the future when these things are in place".
no my point is someone said it would ruin their precious Final fantasy atmosphere. lol when there's barely such a thing right now. yet they still play it and call it final fantasy and appreciate all the new things it's added to the "final fantasy atmosphere" regardless of how un-final-fantasy-ish it is, why is jumping any stranger.
