I would like jumping. Jumping allows you to develop future quests and dungeons with unique action-oriented mechanisms in mind.

Some of my favorite MMO quests were in the game Asheron's Call 2. They had a quest hub where players could do quests that tested their ability to manuver themselves in the game world. One example was a puzzle quests where players would jump from one low gravity platform to another, being careful to avoid the "bad" platforms where they would fall through the platform and fail the quest. Another great example from the same quest was a quest involving a dungeon run through a dungeon with giant moving objects that players had to jump from object to object, and avoid objects that would push them off of their standing area to their death. It added a great dimension to the game, and I strongly recommend adding jumping.

If they add jumping it should only be in "necessary" places. jumping, otherwise, is very pointless.

    I want jumping!

I don't care if people jump around like rabbits. Games should have options.

Jumping? Screw jumping. I want to friggin' CLIMB those stupid little hills you can't see on the map. Is that really so much to ask for?

Personally, the thought of a 'Jump' button in this game terrifies me. Final Fantasy XIV aims to have a bit of a realism factor, so just jumping around 20 feet like a jackass whenever you want is a bit out of the question. Of course.
But I agree with you.. They should just make little ledges and things like that climbable. It would add a whole lot more depth to the game and make it feel twenty times greater of the experience, the main reason why I bought the game in the first place.

This is obviously a hugely wanted factor of the game by the fans, and I truly hope that Square-Enix listens and eventually delivers, unlike they did with Final Fantasy XI.
And what if you want to cross the map quickly? You should be able to just take a leap off of a high ledge rather than going around it. Sure, if the hill is like two stories tall, I can understand that being dangerous to jump off of. So make that unavailable, SE. As you did with FFX-2-- Only make it so you can jump from certain variable marked areas. I haven't played anything that's FFXII and beyond, so I can't say much about the newer features they've shown in newer games. But if they even turned their head to the word 'Jumping' in any game, they should really consider this. I've been wanting a Jumping and Climbing feature in FFXI for the last five years, for crying out loud.

If I wanted to play a platformer, I'd play Super Mario.

And I hate platformers... Well, I hate Mario too.

In general, protesting against a feature because of the fear of annoyance from other players isn't a strong argument.

People may occasionally find many things that other people do in an online game annoying, like emote spamming (especially since Final Fantasy XIV has sound clips associated with the emotes), chat spamming and even skill spamming. This is not a good reason to remove emotes, chat, nor skills from the game. Social issues like these are usually dealt with by social means, such as blacklisting of the person/exclusion.

Generally, if you aren't tolerant enough to accept and deal with the possibility of poor behaviour of other people, you should not be playing an online game, as it will likely make you unhappy.

I somewhat agree with you but when said feature that could lead to spam is unneccessary (honestly I've been playing since launch and never once thought 'OMG I NEED JUMP!!!'). I won't cry if they add it but let's be honest, there's much more important features I'd rather see.
