Like with XI you actually have a reputation in this game unlike others where you just make multiple alts where only your friends know who you are. Gaining good rep is also another reason not to start a new character besides crafting or item holding.
though thats also what caused white mages to become pariahs after dropping the ball once and causing a group wipe.
