Seriously Why?
If not a jump, what about a stand alone jumping feature, possibly something along the lines of mining/fishing/botany nodes. These jump nodes would be located in quest featured locations. ^^
I would not want jumping at will. Over ledges and stuff FFXIII style is fine, though.
I just don't think a free-jumping system would work well. There's just too many problems associated with adding it in.
However, I do think a scripted-jumping/falling system would work fine. It makes sense your character wouldn't voluntarily jump off a cliff into the ocean, but why can't my character drop down three feet off a ledge onto grass? Heck my character jumps higher than that during Seismic Shock!
If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!
I actually completely agree with CSLionheart. FFXIII's jump mechanic would work perfectly in FFXIV. In XIII, you weren't even prompted to jump. All you had to do was run toward an appropriate obstacle and your character would jump over it, easy and seamless.
If this type of jump was implemented, it would both get rid of complaints about running around obstacles, AND avoid the absurdity of people spamming the jump button all around town.
I being able to automatically jump over things, like in Zelda or other games. I could then jump down that two foot ledge that keeps taunting me. For some reason though, I'm able to conquer that six foot ledge in Thanalan for some reason. Anyway, I don't want a dedicated jump button. It would mess up my whole keyboard layout. If they do add jump, I don't want ever race being able to jump at least six feet in the are.
But, I would be happy if they added the jump feature if they meet my one request. Give me a "silly walk button". If everyone else can jump, I want to be able to do a silly walk. Could have a quest to be able to get that ability. Have to do something for the Ministry of Silly Walks. ::Monty Python off::
No JUMP please -.-
I would like to dunk on shaq.
context sensitive jump would be nice too.
Edit: BACK IN MY DAY LANCERS COULD JUMP TO THE MOON.
I hope they put this to a poll. I see a lot of people speaking as if they are the voice of the community, but I for one would like a jump--and considering this game is, unlike FFXIII, very open and quite non-linear, the FFXIII jump function would not work as well.
Being able to jump and keeping atmosphere are not mutually exclusive. For instance, Miqo'te and Lalafell both seem as though they would jump quite a bit. Besides this, as mentioned above there are often instances where being able to jump would save a lot of frustration regarding mobs on different levels of terrain, or just getting around. A lot of the commentary now and on the fansites seems to be close to "I don't want it, so no one else should have it". I would like the choice.
I don't want Jumping either! At least, not in a WoW-Aion-Whatever-Else-MMO-Style... FFXI never had jumping and that was totally fine. I never missed it and it gave the game a more serious atmosphere, and that's what i liked!
As previous posters already said, i could live with a jumping-option like in FFXIII or any other game where you were only able to jump on certain places by certain commandos. That's totally fine.
But please no jumping where people start to hop on buildings and fountains and hop all around the city, and on your head and through the adventurers guild and over fences and walls, and think it's funny. Those people totally annoy me and just this would make the game less fun to me - it would totally get on my nerves!![]()
