It's much more strange to "want" it so much...
In any case, if you read my post carefully i explain it. I don't believe it can be implemented properly by SE, aka it would be more of an annoyance than a benefit.
I'm not even sure they can let you jump down cliffs with ease without some sort of clipping or awkward movement as the engine is right now.
Then again, mine is only an opinion. If jump isn't implemented in the perfect manner it will break the game for me, so why would i not be opposed to it? I don't feel the need for it, yet it would ruin the game for me if it was implemented poorly.
Obviously i'd rather not run the risk.

So I'm a troll for giving an alt. fix for jumping?
Yeah, nice logic there.
Invisible walls in a persistent world are more annoying than any bunnyhopper could ever hope to be.. even if he was botting the jump command.
Remove the walls, add jump, then move on to fixing what is actually wrong with the game.
Y DON THEY JUST MAKE A TOGGLE 4 JUMPING LIEK WITH DA AGGRO ICON
DUHHHHHHHHHH

Well, they could add both forms of jumps: a free form of jump (press a button and you jump) and an automatic jump when you get too close of ledges/obstacles (make it so it can be turned on/off, to prevent the annoying situation of jumping down or up when you are simply trying to walk to close to the obstacle). And for those who dislike the few bunnyhoppers we'll have: introduce a jumping filter. Jumps will not be displayed on your computer screen for other players if you enable this.
Simple, it pleases everyone, but would require some more work from the development team.
As for my personal preference, I much prefer a free form of jump: I press a button, I jump. Automated jumping doesn't give as much freedom as I'd like to have (be able to take screenshots while jumping at the proper location, jump somewhere hidden to play hide-and-seek with my friends, etc.) and, as I already mentioned, we wouldn't be able to walk close to obstacles anymore because it would trigger the jumping behavior (quietly walk around an enemy for example).
Hopefully we can get the decision from SE about this soon.![]()
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
I don't understand the reasoning for so many people to be so adamant about not wanting Jump.
I think a simple compromise would be to have it a game mechanic based on in game stats that limit your jumps per minute.
Say you're a big roegadyn in full plate armor, make it so he can only jump like 3 times in a minute before a hidden fatigue gauge prevents him from jumping.
You're a Miqo'te pugilist who is nimble make it so she can jump like 12 times in one minute.
This would prevent the "jump jump jump jump" that so many of you fear, add a bit of realism to the game, and help reduce the feelings of your feet being magnetically stuck to the ground like I have.
Jumping is useless unless it has an actual use and some kind of restriction on it. Autojumping over a tiny ledge? That's perfectly fine as it's the main reason people should want to jump.
When people claim "it will let us explore more", not unless the world is designed to be thoroughly explored which the current world of FFXIV is not explorable beyond what we already see and know of the layout. If I recall yoshida said the possible implementation is going to be a compromise between "free" and maybe something like an emote as he knows theres a lot of people for AND against it.

I'd also like to add to this by saying one of the reasons people want jump is to get over tiny ledges or other things, and from how it sounds SE fixed most of that issue with this patch. I haven't tested how effective it is, but my LS mates have said they can get over ledges now without having to walk around them.Jumping is useless unless it has an actual use and some kind of restriction on it. Are we forgetting a major system component here? The Stamina system? Make Jumping take a chunk of that away. simple. bunny-hopping solved. people certainly wont jump around while fighting with their stamina dropping heavily. make it take enough that at best you could perhaps do at most, 2 jumps after each other.
People say there's not enough world to be explorable by jumping. are we forgetting you can build on existing maps? why is was just this last update the dev team removed rocks from the world to make it easier to move.
Jumping has every right and possibility to be useful and increase immersion.
I also disagree with an ff13 jump feature. want to get to a camp with ledges in the way, set Auto-run and walk away and let your char deal with all the obstacles on their own while you go grab some snacks? no.
