Oh hell yes! Now I can clearly show you how irrelevant these games are compared to this thread. Even though there were instances where you would jump a gap in the enviroment, it wasn't really anything at all in the game. Do you seriously think the game would've been less enjoyable if Snake didn't just jump to the next ledge? That Chris Redfield didn't just hop a 1 foot gap between the roofs? Couldn't Chris mostly just climb up/down ladders to achieve the same goal?Yeah, imagine a platformer game where you can't jump. Now imagine a racing game without cars. Why doesn't XIV have cars? They've been around since Amiga for God's sake! Why can't I control hundreds of units from a top perspective like in Command & Conquer? This game is so outdated.
Although to be fair every good action or rpg game in existence has jumping mechanics. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Demon's Souls and Resident Evil 5 come to mind. You just can't build a good game if there isn't jumping.
Pulling up games that doesn't revolve around jumping to advance in the storyline doesn't help this argument. Maybe you should've said RE4. That had a lot more jumping that actually helped your topic. Hell Marior IS a better case to your argument.....Even though he also needed other perks such as Fire Flower, Racoon Suit, Yellow Cape, etc, etc.... You CAN build a good game without jumping. I think 500,000 FFXI subscribers would agree with me.
There's actually a few platforming parts of demon's souls, and even a way to get to Ostrava early using your roll to get over a wall, whereupon he praises you with "Nice jump"
but again these are games where the player typically doesnt feel that he needs a jump by design, the fact that people are asking one means that they failed in that respect.

My opinion is, that character jumping would be awesome, and would definately solve the problem that we feel ourselves fixed to the ground.
I think the best solution would be to allow people to jump over (or down) smaller obtacles like elevations on the ground, fences or boulders.
In addition, the implementation of a system that allows the player to climb over fences, or climb up to some hills or buildings that look easily reachable would be very fovourable. I'm talking about the fact, that in the current state of the game, players are unable to really move their charaters around the environment. It looks like the player is glued to the ground, the only exeptions are emote animations, and they made the game a lot more enjoyable, especially for players in parties.
So, my vote is for jumping.![]()

They should have rated this game "M" for mature because I haven't seen this kind of arguing since my "free MMO" days. There really is no point in arguing. There's been over 80+ pages of just pointless bickering back and forth. There is no persuasion over the internet, you just can't. If someone wants to jump, they want to jump, you can't flame and troll them out of their opinion. Both sides have clearly and repeatedly stated their thoughts and feelings, posting another page of insults won't do anyone any good. If anything, I think a poll or a survey would quickly end this issue. From my point of view, jumping is not worthy of consideration or implementation because there really is no real reason to have it. Just picture walking through Gridania and seeing random players sitting on top of buildings and roof tops, it takes away from the atmosphere and mood. I want to admire XIV's beauty, not stare at some kid trying to jump into a pond or into a tree. Theres a reason why Final Fantasy never had a free user input "jump" feature. And they ones they did implement were pointless. The auto jump functions were rather annoying seeing as how I would sometimes randomly jump backwards instead of jumping forwards. I apologize if someone before me has already posted this exact response, I just didn't feel like sorting through 80+ pages of junk.

lol, just giving you a hard time, it reminded me of this infamous statement:From my point of view, jumping is not worthy of consideration or implementation because there really is no real reason to have it. Edit: This is for you, Shikyo.
Dear Development Team,
Hi! First of all let me tell you that you're doing a great job so far, and I know I can expect the best from you when it comes to future installments. Secondly I know right now a lot of people are expressing their deepest concerns for your country and let me go off and say how I am truly sorry for your tragedy. Everybody in your company with friends, family, and co-workers who suffered in this disaster. I just want you all to know that my heart weeps for all your horrible pain and anquish. I will do my part to the best that I can to help donate any and all spare available funds I can to help you come through this time of crisis. Please stay strong and know that many like me hope for you and your country the best of wishes.
Now why I am writing this last thread of mine is to ask you, with the upmost courtesy, to set a lock on this thread. I believe after 20,000+ views, 850 different replies, and 86 pages of discussion that it is finally time to set this discussion in stone. I have seen, with the best of my ability, that every possible logical problems and concerns have been addressed and rebuttaled. There seems to be no more reason to take this discussion any further other than to insult people which is what currently is happening.
I am formally asking that this thread be locked out of discussion until you, and the rest of the development team, has layed down a plan for this simple yet elegant task to be incorporated into this beautiful installment of your franchise juggernaut. Thank you, and I hope you consider my request with the upmost haste and speed.
A Loyal Fan,
Kimahri Ronso
So what about a stamina system? where as you jump, you lose stamina, which in turn affect the height and distance of your next jump until you run out of stamina after say...idk 3 or 4 consecutive jumps. Of course the bar would slowly refill, but it would cut down on the spamming.
No it won't. Guess what you don't need while in a town. Stamina. So no matter what, people have no reason to conserve stamina and will jump whenever possible. And even if players are given the ability to jump once a minute, or two minutes, or three minutes, or however many minutes, it will still annoy people. Do you know why? Because bunny hopping isn't what annoys you, jumping for no reason is what annoys you. Would it annoy you if a different people jumped one after another in a crowd of players where you grab leves? Yes.So what about a stamina system? where as you jump, you lose stamina, which in turn affect the height and distance of your next jump until you run out of stamina after say...idk 3 or 4 consecutive jumps. Yes I do have a My Little Pony sig because I'm not a complete loser who lives in his own little world, proclaiming something is stupid because I say so.
