I for one does not have anything going against any MMO jumping or no jumping. As long as the game play is good and I can enjoy it. period...

Yoshida-san does not have to kill this thread, it has been dead since the fourth post.
There is no real substance to either argument, whether for or against jumping.
The Implement Camp has had their argument concisely summed up: BECAUSE... I've seen it elsewhere; I want it; it would be cool; it would allow me to avoid this tiny obstacle which I find overly and disproportionately frustrating; (insert other completely subjective supporting conjectures here).
The Omit Camp has an equally succinct argument: BECAUSE... it's not traditional FF; I don't want it; it would not be cool; I find the mere sight of other players making use of a feature which gives them a small amount of joy overly and disproportionately frustrating; (insert other completely subjective opposing conjecture here).
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, the pro's and con's of implementing a jump feature for ffxiv.
While there does not seem to be any objective argument for either position, and if I missed one please correct me, the mere fact that players want a feature like this included, in some form or another, is reason enough to incorporate it into the game, in a reasonable manner.
The main issue with implementing a jump feature at this time, is that the resources required could be utilized to greater effect were they applied to different aspects of ffxiv.
People who are anti-jump: Let the baby have his bottle. Will your playing experience be diminished by such a great amount that you feel the need to subjectively and reflexively oppose such a trivial facet?
People who are pro-jump: Remember that whatever Yoshida-san implements, whether emote-style, free world-wide jumping, or nothing at all, right now you have no jump and you are still playing the game. If jumping is not added, you will lose nothing. If jumping is added, in all likelihood it will be neither what you anticipated nor what you expected, it will not be changed further, and it will have taken precious time away from fixing things which actually will make a significant difference.
The implementation of a jump feature will frustrate those who opposed it because they will feel their opinions are somehow worth less than supporters, and will split supporters into two groups: those who are happy with how it was done, and those who are not and wish they had never supported it because other, more significant, aspects of ffxiv had to be delayed because the resources were applied to implementing a jump feature.
yeah way to bring a fresh look at the discussions - lots of brand new information there......ahem.Yoshida-san does not have to kill this thread, it has been dead since the fourth post.

Way to go....

I would really enjoy the use of a jump feature. It gives the game a more realistic feel and allows for greater range of exploratory freedom. I played FFXI for many years and the lack of a jump feature was one of the most annoying downsides of that game. At the very least, a jump system similar to FFXIII where a character will perform an acrobatic leap in certain areas would make our characters feel less grounded.

I agree completely.Yoshida-san does not have to kill this thread, it has been dead since the fourth post.

The state the game is in right now, resources need to be focused elsewhere. There are still many big issues to focus on right now other than jump.
If those are not addressed first, I know quite a few people that will quit, myself included. And this will not be because we didn't want jump in the first place, but because Square-Enix just proved to us they don't know how to prioritize serious issues over the insignificant ones; that they are not really serious about fixing the fundamental flaws with the game.
Yeah, imagine a platformer game where you can't jump. Now imagine a racing game without cars. Why doesn't XIV have cars? They've been around since Amiga for God's sake! Why can't I control hundreds of units from a top perspective like in Command & Conquer? This game is so outdated.
Although to be fair every good action or rpg game in existence has jumping mechanics. Games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Demon's Souls and Resident Evil 5 come to mind. You just can't build a good game if there isn't jumping.

A sound argument, except for the fact that Metal Gear is a more of a strategy/shooter rpg, and RE5 is an over the shoulder shooter. Demons Souls didn't have a jump feature, but a instead had a dodge feature that let you leap backwards or roll out of the way. Given that most FF games had no jump feature, I can't complain too much about FFXIV's lack thereof, but we're also not living in the stone age either. Time to move on to a game where the term "Role Playing Game" actually involves being able to act in any method desired, similar to Elder Scrolls. What would really be great is if we could start using headsets like .hack//'s "The World" MMO where you actually feel like you're in the character's shoes and can act any way you please. I bet even in that case there will be people complaining about something lol.
