lol good question
Being able to jump only at certain locations sound good. not sure what you ment by automaticaly though. it should be like most of the things in FFXIV. an ! icon should apear at places where you can jump up over/on/off an obstacle.

Where your character automatically scales obstacles in his or her path. That said, I would not mind a button dedicated solely to jumping either, and "obnoxious" or not to some people.. the practical application of scaling uneven terrain far outweighs the annoyance it may bring to others.
I proposed this idea back in Alpha. I suggested "Auto-Jump" as you are approaching obstacles. Someone argued that systematically it would be a pain in the ass to program those jump locations and just adding jump would be easier.Being able to jump only at certain locations sound good. not sure what you ment by automaticaly though. it should be like most of the things in FFXIV. an ! icon should apear at places where you can jump up over/on/off an obstacle.
By automatically, i believe he might have meant similar to Final Fantasy 13 (as you approach).
It was sometimes annoying if you didn't want to jump though.
I've met a few people who stopped playing FF14 and return to say "i kept trying to jump" as they logged in. It doesn't necessarily annoy me, but when i switch from, say, RIFT back to FF11 or FF14 i sometimes find myself trying to jump as well.
I would love to see the jump feature added to the game. It's a great feature, and if you don't like it. Don't use it. Simple as that, why not have something that could benefit the game as whole. It would be a great feature to have.
This is not WOW we dont need jump, it adds nothing to the game people really need to stop complaining about something so trivial and has no effect on the overall aspect of the game. No wonder the Devs tend to ignore most of the NA comments they are retarded and have no bearing on the overall flow or completion of the game. I hope if SE adds Jump in to shut ppl up they either do a /jump animation or dont remove the invisible walls that would be hilarious
I think SE is planning to do a jump feature similar to the one in FFXIII where there is a designated area near a ledge that your trying to get across that will allow you to jump.. I am almost sure that this would be a much more welcome addition rather than a jump action that can be done with your character at anytime. This solves the problem without making the game kiddy and unreal
FFXIII was terrible and I hope to god no one plans on bringing any of the game mechanics over to FFXIV. I think that adding a 'jump' button to this game would insult the Final Fantasy purists (the only people still playing this game) and to see people jumping around as their only means of transport would be plain obnoxious. I can understand that the dev team is trying to tap into what made other MMOs popular, but FFXIV has no personality as it stands, jumping players would just add to that.
I'll take a chocobo over a 'jump' any day of the week!
You put your right foot in you put your right out you stick your left foot in and you hear the players pout! You push the space bar and you flail all around, that's what it's all about!
I would not like jump AT ALL put in FFXIV. I see no need for it. It isn't hard to just walk around the rocks and cliffs.
I want jumping. Walking up to a small, small cliff and not being able to just hop over it infuriates me. It makes the game feel dated to me. People act like jump spam will be everywhere - and even if it is, so what? Contextual jumping is nonsense, it'd take forever to implement. Id actually prefer regular style jumping, it could be used for travel in future map updates and encounters.
