I'm glad I'm not the only person here that doesn't read too much into what Yoshi-san says. All he said was he's taking everything into consideration. Goodness, some of you people take everything far to seriously and far and away out of context. Let's look at what Yoshi-P ACTUALLY said. He mentioned the original plan was to make it like an E-mote, and that they were also planning to adjust collision detection, and that we should separate our views of collision detection (IE Invisible walls) from jumping. Meaning, no matter how you slice it, you were never going to see the functional jumping how you wanted it. It would have been minorly functional for fence hopping, but was otherwise a simple e-mote.
Also, at last look, I believe the reason the forums were added was because the produces wanted to know exactly what we thought so they could get a feel for what we wanted. So because you didn't get your way due to some other people voicing their own concerns is no reason to throw a tantrum.
Now, let's look at the feel for a lot of the posts. Most people aren't against jumping, they're only against the annoying issue that was 10 year olds in WoW hopping everywhere. If it's an E-Mote there's not a lot you can really do about that. At the same time, you're probably gonna see it added in some form or another. But the E-mote form is probably the one that's gonna end up. Which is what Yoshi-P originally planned.
Frothing at the mouth over it is really rather sad.
I cant tell if people want a jump feature to overcome certain obstacles or having a (imo usless) ability to jump just because other mmo's have it or not.
I agree that jumping in WoW was to jump over fences, jump around like crazy in PvP / Battlgrounds, get ontop of objects was convenient to get around (this last part could cause major problems in a game that was'nt intended to have the "Jump" feature in in the first place), hell even the mounts in WoW jumped when it was moving (rawar / yelled when it wasnt) but that was just one of those tiny useless but cool things i guess.
But in a game such as this Final Fantasy & with the current landscape....well it dosent really fit it.
Just imagine going to pick up leves,... and all of a sudden... some huge Roegadyn sitting on the god damn Leve-counter blocking the npc & totally messing up the natural order of things.
lol sure i like jumping ontop of things, explore new ways to get around, but thats how people are, we just cant get enough of finding new things to do, or even ways to bug / annoy other players.
Now... here's lil something i didnt need jump for:

However... jump would probably been faster way to get up on the table.
But no...im very persistant, i used the barrels behind that table & forced my way up there.
Jump should serve a purpose beyong annoying others, trying to get outside the boundries of the game.
I'd suggest skip "Jump", add "slide" down the steep hill instead.
I'd also suggest that SE instead of completly remodelling the landscapes is to make specific areas that can be climbed more visual, add some rock formations, darker gravel paths, anything to show the player... here!, here you can climb the hill easier.
People remember the maps after awhile & also remembers exactly where you can / cannot climb up or down.

Laughlyn - i disagree with all your points, because it seems unnatural for our characters to NOT be able to jump a little.
And why so defensive? You say jump will just make people annoy you - but not all people are bad - and if they wanted to annoy you they don't need jump lots of annoying things characters can do.
The truth is in 21st century Final Fantasy, a character should be able to jump, it seems to RUIN immersion for me that he cant jump. My character feels like a puppet welded to rails on the floor at the moment I need freedom to move (I promise i wont jump on the guildleve counter to annoy you !)![]()
Could easily ask you the same thing about why so offensive about jump?Laughlyn - i disagree with all your points, because it seems unnatural for our characters to NOT be able to jump a little.

You know what...lol you should have jump, cuz i would stand there watch you (happily) jump of a cliff...
lol jump...gtfo

It should be noted that Immersion does not mean realism. There is a difference to being immersed IRL & immersed in a game or Fantasy MMO.Actually both break immersion. No z-axis break it and irrealistic jump break it too.
Jump to go on something? No, normally if the place you want to get to is low enough you'll just step on it and if it's too high you'll climb, not jump. When going somewhere you would walk or run and in front of an unsurmountable obstacle you would go around it, not try a series of well placed jump to go over it.
The only time were jumping help immersion is to get jump off sometime or to use it to cross a gap.
I think i said it already in this thread but for a jump that help immersion it would need to be realistic meaning not jumping to high, not being able to fall from too high(at least not without dieing) and not being able to move around by jumping as fast as by running.
Bolded is opinion that i disagree with, but it should have it's limits obviously. If animated correctly the jump would be similar to RL jumping (but slightly higher), but to say it needs to be realistic, i do not agree.

JUMP !! We need it ! you need it ! even the haters need it (they just wont admit it)!
Put in an Auction House first though please !
I can't believe THIS is our most replied thread.
Out of everything we have to discuss, the addition or not of jumping is one of the least important >_>
This is stupidity in its greatest form.
Im sorry but knowing dev team have their focus right now into jump or not to jump makes me want to rage literally.
So this is what listening to your player base does for a game.
Im going to watch tv , this is extremely depressing.
jump or no jump who the hell cares,
THIS WONT FIX OR BREAK THE GAME ,is not the time for this dead horse.
i bet next is Pvp or not pvp, like in every single mmo forum out there, and thats what they will work on next.
