    I actually like the implementation of swimming.

    I always thought it was cheesy that Tommy Vercetti could ride a motorcycle at 80 mph head on into a truck, be shot multiple times by cops, and ruthlessly stabbed by rival thugs but if he accidentally trips into some head deep water he's as good as dead.

    Same applies for all games.

    Greetings everyone! FFXIV Producer/Director Yoshida has made some comments about "jumping" that we wanted to make sure you saw!

    Hi everyone, this is Producer/Director Yoshida!

    Thanks so much for the lively discussion in regards to jumping.
    Since the points that we are currently reviewing in regards to jumping have caused a lot of confusion for the community, I’ll go ahead organize them there.

    Jump review:
    • One form of emotional expression
    • Additional action-related expression during movement
    • Able to get over small fences (This is not the main idea)
    I believe that jumping as a form of expression, which allows the player to indicate the location of NPCs and also to inform others of meeting locations, will be able to be used in many subtle ways.
    However comments such as "Aesthetically, the game will be ruined by everyone jumping around," and "It’s not FINAL FANTASY," and other comments were a bit unexpected, so I decided to add these types of comments into our discussion as well.

    Though the idea of jumping was based on wanting to reduce the feeling of being tied to the ground, I will continue to evaluate whether or not this should be implemented by following along with your discussions and comments!

    Map Collision Detection Adjustments:
    • Being unable to descend ledges where it seems you can easily fall off
    • Feeling of strangeness when you can't climb up a hill that looks to be easily climbable
    We have received a lot of feedback pointing these things out from numerous players, but the task of relieving stress during character movement is currently being tested by development in the form of map collision detection adjustments.
    If you can think about this separately from the jump implementation discussion it would really help a lot.

    I am sure that whatever additions you make to please the 'pro-jump' community will not deter those of us in the 'anti-jumping' community.

    In essence: the Pro-jumping community are players that you wish to attract. the 'anti-jumping' community are die-hard FF fans like myself that don't like the idea based upon the history of FF, and the gameplay of FFXI. But if it WAS to be added, I don't think that any of us diehards would be deterred from the game; in fact, I think we would benefit from the addition simply because it would attract a younger and newer player base that we could either play with, or dominate with our FF skills.

    I can't see why it wasn't there to begin with. When you consider the terrain in this game, the amount of shit you need to walk around is staggering.

    Concerning the second part about collision detection apart from jumping, I think the idea about feeling bound to the ground (I think the bigger issue here) could be largely remedied by adding an animation when descending ledges like a light fall or a sliding motion giving the appearance of leaving the ground or just something visually different from the normal running animation down or up the grade. It would look less anchored allowing the conversation about actual jumping to be postponed and saving development time for more pressing matters while offering much of the same effect. Just an idea.

    Is this really one of the top priorities of the devo team atm? O.o; why is this listed as one of the latest coments on the game by the devo team..... this weighs in so lightly in the overall view of all the problems that need to be addressed.....

    REALLY guy come on talk about ignoring the 900lb gorilla in the room, how about adressing the threads about the more pressing issues Mr. Yoshida, the battle system....battle regi's are aweful(ws chains work), auto attack = win, Or maybe the thread about the class seperation and addition of traditional classes (not just the names) and the topic about drop kicking the armory system the mismash hybrid system is just so broken, hhmmm or maybe the rank favored equipment system. COME ON! The complete lack of content, I actually learned to love crafting but this game goes extreme with making a absolute necessity to pass time. Can we maybe put jumping on the back burner and handle the that big snarling beast standing over there snaking on the players patience? PLEASE! thank you XD

    Kimahri is right 100%, but should aim that post at the developement team, cause a beast named realissue said he couldnt even get an appointment with them... if u have a problem with my post send me some rotten apples in my in game mailbox... in my moghouse on rabanastre server... i'll grab a chocobo and head there to check the box as soon as my party finishes this exp chain...
