That would be nice to have.
And would like to automatically be climbing small hills.
I prefere not having to press a "jump" to get upp.
If people like a "jump" emote I don't care.

I really don't understand the whole hubdub about adding the jump feature. As a long time FFXI player I didn't miss all that much. And most jumping in other games is just something to do when ADD kids can't stand still for 2 seconds.

In this respect I do not miss it.

However, I would like to see some more exotic locales get added in XIV. Especially where elevation is involved. Final Fantasy has always been known for incredible character animations and design. I would like to see that carried forward in jumping.

Such as in XIII, jumping was restricted to very specific locations and was highlighted by little circular nodes of light to indicate you could jump there. While I was not a fan of these circular nodes standing out so much in the environment. I do recognize it was necessary so ppl could see they were there. But maybe they could fade into being visible when your approach them. Not being able to see them from clear across the map. This should help with Level of detail issues as well. There is really no need for incessant jumping, because it interrupts the continuity of the game. When telling a story you don't say the main hero jumps continuously to get over a rock?! No you say he somersaulted or sprinted around said rock. It's more dramatic and more interesting to watch.

Also in XIII there were plenty of places to explore, it wasn't all flat, you could jump to higher or lower elevations to do more exploring. Would be awesome to see this in an MMO. And the jumps could be animated so they are per race so they are unique.

I'd like to see it take so far as you could even climb in some locales. Such as if you approach cliff you could climb up or down it if it was allowed!

I like the Chocobo jumping idea too. I'm all for Chocobo's allowing you to travel across certain terrains types. Such as water, Mountains, flying, etc... It could make some areas inaccessible to some lower level players because they are not high enough to rent a chocobo, or not experienced to ride said chocobo.

But when you talk about such advanced elements and the fact that they did not develop the current environments with this in mind. The jumping feature may not be included till an expansion. Which would make since.

But I tell you what, if my Miq'ote can somersault like what is seen they can do in the Ul'dah intro movies that would be awesome!

A jump feature isn't really nessecary in my opinion. The game is designed to work without it.

No, actually it's not. You can't design a 3D RPG that can work well without a jump function of some kind. It simply isn't possible. At least not unless you want to have perfectly flat environments with no cliffs, rocks, ledges or obstacles of any kind.

Navigating the terrain in FFXIV is incredibly annoying and cumbersome, as you're frequently having to go around knee-high obstacles that really shouldn't be obstacles at all.

This was a big problem in FFXI too, as well as several of the other RPGs Square-Enix has made in the past 10 years. 3D environments by their very nature necessitate 3D character movement of some kind, which usually means being able to jump.

SE can either give us auto-jumping like in Zelda or FFXIII, or they can give us a designated jump-button like every other MMO on the market. Either way works fine, but they need to do something.

I take it you never played Final Fantasy XI.

I played XI and it was an issue in that game too. We got used to it and accepted it, but that doesn't mean we'd be better off without it.

This game seems designed to work without a lot of things, most importantly, fun. I'm for a jump, maby it lowers your movement speed after consecutives jumps or an auto jump where the animation could changed based on the hight of the jump. They also need to remove alot of the invisible walls, i cant step up or down a 1 foot drop is it isent the "designated ramp" area, annoying.

We WANT jump! The game feels so detached without it. Yes it may seem useless, but the game still feels so lame being rooted to the ground and not being able to get over the one foot cliff.

Yes but its not designed well without it. Jump is a great feature and will work well in this game because we can jump over those invisable cliffs that seem to stop my character every 2-3 seconds

To fix a wheel, you don't need to buy a new car. Instead of taking a roundabout approach implementing a new function to get around a flaw of the game, they should just remove that flaw. IE: remove the invisible walls and allow players to just drop down.
