I hate auto jump. It is to easy to get caught in jump loops. (jumping between the same 2 places)
to the guy who said if we need a jump to get over enviroment. in ffxi we did.
Quests could have been made short just with the ability to jump over the rollany berry fences. And also was considerable safer then running through the high lvl qudevs in rollenberry fields [S]. Also that fence in la theine or the ramp down to the recue drill. I'm all for jump to make traveling (with in reason) safer and less time consuming.

I want to see a manual jump. I want to see them add it into the game so that in the future we will have to hop over things in maps, or in future encounters you may have to jump. It makes it feel more dynamic. Walking and running gets just plain boring.

Why not a jump? If people are jumping around everywhere ( which I doubt), who cares? They are doing it because its fun. And that is the point of the game. Adding a jump feature would make the game more interesting and cause the feel to be less wooden.

    @ kaeden

Have you ever played Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?

You know how easy it is to get cought in a time consuming stupid looking jump loop you had no control over. Heck link died more often from auto jump then he did from the enemies.

Would you stop? You always take a part of statement out of context and run away with it like a mad hatter.

We've moved on to Manual jump with limitations. Try to keep up hun.

Couldnt you just make it auto-jump any terrain of a certain height? Also certain cliff ranges? Either way i'd also like to be able to climb over small cliff areas in order to have some really nice vertical path dungeons.

I still want to see one reason why we need jump. Seriously jumping people, what do you think you gain from a jump feature?

    1. Areas now unreachable will still be unreachable because they will make them too high to jump and or invisi-wall them because THEY DON'T WANT US TO GO THERE!
    2. You will still not be able to jump a fence because if you could it serves no purpose. By definition a fence is something you should not be able to cross by a simple jump. If you could it would not be a bloody FENCE!
    3. Small cliffs and rocks. If you can not walk 10 pixels around a rock or cliff thats blocking the way for a reason, may that be aestethic or gameplay related then you need to sit back, take a deep breath and think about how stupid complaint is.

Jumping is fine and dandy in FPS or platform and puzzle games. It serves no purpose in FFXIV and i dare you to name ONE MMO where jumping adds something truly unique gameplay wise to the game. (What i mean is something like Aion making flying a core mechanic)

PS: No, jumping across 5 maps in WoW does not count as a meanignfull addition.

    How about I name two?

    Aion:
*Most areas out in the world were 'no-fly' zones. You could only glide, and you had to do a double-jump to activate your glide. When the game was first released, there were no mounts. Your wings were your only method of transportation.

    World of Warcraft:
*Blackfathom Deeps - A low level dungeon of sunken elven ruins, in which jumping was required to progress to the middle part of the instance since the stone walkway was broken in several places.
*The Nexus - A level 80 heroic dungeon. On the final boss fight, you combat a dragon named Keristrasza. She places a stacking debuff on you called Intense Cold, that stacks every two seconds. You can remove the debuff by constantly moving throughout the fight. The standard strategy is to keep jumping.
*Naxxramas - A level 80 raid. On the Thaddius boss fight, you had to jump from a high miniboss platform down to the main boss platform. If you didn't do it properly, you ended up in the liquid, had to swim to the entrance, and rejoin your group.
*Throne Of The Tides - A level 85 heroic dungeon. There is an elevator halfway through the instance that is bugged. When it comes down, your entire party has to jump to make the elevator think you're on it, otherwise it will go up without you.

They would have to do drastic redesign of terrain, pathing, and collision. When you don't have the knowledge of how these things work, "I doubt it" doesn't work as an argument.
And having to program a "manual" jump to specific terms wouldn't be work? Just how high and which of the who knows how many there are ledges would they have to program in , both in existing zones now and ones to come, to allow said manual jumping? Which cliffs could you jump off of, and which not. Which rocks could you jump over and which not.

And as a cs major in my 3rd year, with a personal interested in opengl api, I think i have some clue of exactly what would have to be changed to impliment a free jump.
