It's a pointless feature. I'm not a huge 'jump' fan myself, pretty indifferent actually, but there is no reason to limit a cosmetic feature just because someone, somewhere might get annoyed.
Great idea. While we're at it, how about we put an energy gauge on running too, people running constantly ruins my immersion.

I was talking about implementing code to limit jumping would take unnecessary time, which I disagree with. Regardless of the amount of time it takes, it's still pointless man hours to put in an equally pointless "limit how much people can jump" mechanic.

Guild Wars 2 gauge exists for double tap rolls which are used for strategic maneuvering and evading attacks (and falling off jumping puzzles on occasions where you forget to turn it off). Jumping serves no such purpose in FFXIV, it can be used to hop over fences and rocks but that is about it.
There is no need to spend time on this idea, as so many people are so quick to point out how "pointless" jumping is, it would be even more "pointless" to pour more resources into a "pointless" mechanic.![]()

I can't help but chuckle to myself and shake my head upon reading topics that request things like this.
It's silly, c'mon now...
Well... "Common" sense isn't all that common anymore, now is it?

You'd be surprised how costly animation can be.
They need to capture the motion for each race.. Probably taking multiple tries.. then calibrate and tweak the animation with tools/software to it flows naturally from jumping, to landing, to running.. repeat this process for each race and gender in the game.. and they also have the chocobos that can jump, which probably also took a long time to get it right.
And then they probably have to make sure that jumping works and is functional in-game; gods forbid that jumping causes the game to crash or makes the player character fall through the map for eternity.
When it comes to games, the things we take for granted could easily have been very expensive to produce. It's the same with every studio. But I'm sure it costs more since each race has it's own skeleton and animation tree; unlike the majority of MMOs where every race shares the same skeleton and animations, that's vastly cheaper.

You can't know what purpose jumping serves in FFXIV yet; have you played 2.0? Have you had the ability to see what jumping brings to the game?Guild Wars 2 gauge exists for double tap rolls which are used for strategic maneuvering and evading attacks (and falling off jumping puzzles on occasions where you forget to turn it off). Sure, they've said it's aesthetic but that could easily change later on. I'm certain that some point down the line jumping will have uses against boss mobs for certain mob mechanics, or use in puzzles somewhere.
They weren't going to spend all that money on a feature so it can remain as a useless aesthetic. They'll put it to use somewhere down the line.
Did we really have to start another jump thread? Really/
Crhist, just leave it alone and accept that we're getting jump and that's just the way it is.
