Current Gen Games: what do you expect from them?

Since FFXIV is supposed to be a current gen game (and not a last gen game) what are some of the things you're seeing from other games and how they can be applied to FFXIV where necessary.

    1. Extensive Voice Over - GW2 and SWTOR
People don't like reading walls of text anymore. No discipline I guess. So in order to get people more immersed in the game, voice overs seem to be used more and more. You don't just read the text, you hear it too... and in GW2's case you don't even read it.

    2. Advanced char creation - EVE, super hero games, AoC
People really like to customize their avatar as much as possible. Selecting from one of a few options just doesn't cut it anymore. They want to tweak the nose, eyes, lips, chin, overall body type, and boob size. Likewise people want lots of ways to customize their armor and looks. In other words they want to stand out and look different from everyone else. They want to make their ideal char.

    3. Dynamic Content - Rift, EVE, GW2
Eve just added incursions, areas where one NPC group takes over and people have to band together to get rid of them. Rift's rifts have the same effect I hear. In GW2 there are dynamic events and they operate in a chain of sorts (you complete one it goes away or back a step, if you fail one, it goes to the next step), the things you can do in an area change as well (ie a village gets burnt down, no more vendors until you drive away the raiders).

    4. Dynamic Combat - GW2
Warriors have attack chain skills, as you keep using that skill slot it changes into the next skill in that line. Elementalists can change which element they are using on the fly. Everyone can switch weapons in combat (between two sets) and this changes the first 5 skills on your bar. If you get downed you get 5 skills just for that. Skills interact with each other (swing your sword through an allied fire zone and your sword catches fire). There's dynamic grouping so you don't have to party formally to team up against a mob and everyone gets a reward.

    5. Lots of lore/storylines - GW2 and SWTOR
Only a little bit of lore and story here and there isn't good enough anymore. People want to be involved and invested in the world. Who are the people and NPCs? What do they want? Why do they want these things? What are the events of the world? How and why are they impacting things? What are the fundamental ideas that are in conflict and why?

These things are all that I expect the current gen to have. The first isn't so necessary and is pretty expensive. I'm sure there are more things, I just can't think of them right now.

Just going out on a limb here, but... I'm guessing you're a big fan of Guild Wars and SW:TOR...

What i want from current generation of games?

More deep combat system. But thats one mnatter i wont discuss for a while or you will get me rannting anout my hate towards autoatacks:P

Sandbox worlds, where players can influence the developement of history, events, buikd upon it. To this cathegory i would add open world player housing, or even town/city building. But that would require much more space that FFXIV world can offer at least for now

Engaging story, thay would allow me to progress character just by doing storyline quests ( not grind for few days, unlock quest, have 5 minutes fun, grind again)

I will rpeat from OP: Character customisation, and not only the character creation level, but later gae too. i would like more choice of colors for armor, ( actually i would like to be able to choose colors when making something, not just make pre colored version. My ideal would be that level of certain item would be decide while crafting, same with bonuses ( to some degree of course). Right now if i like some low level clothes i am doomed, cos i i try to use them on higher levels, i will not get party invite, or ill be just siginficantly weaker. I would like to be able to upgrade ths equipment i like to stay with my level, would be it throuigh NPC quests, or a crafter skill. ( I can see some people offended by it, cos they do believe certain level should wear 'impressive' armor, i dont see it that way, actually as you read fantasy , greates heroes wore very plain equipment, the 'wanabees' wore impresive all shiny and powerfull looking stuff ( and they died very soon:P))

And last, but not least: Ability to wear glasses AND hat, at the same time.

Oooh, and give us some hair accesories please:P

Gala I like GW, I'm looking forward to GW2, however I'm going to avoid SWTOR. That said, both games are probably going to sell 2x-4x more copies than FF14 will at least. If both ended up selling 3 million or more, it wouldn't surprise me. So maybe SE should pay attention to them and how some of them (like GW2) are trying to advance the genre.

For example, who wouldn't like going out and seeing some new mobs in the area for a change, defeat them and either the old mobs return or something else does?

With that statement in mind, if you offer nothing to contribute to the thread, why post?

Lam, yeah hair accessories and customizing things later on will be cool. I think EVE is going to offer a way so that you can recustomize your PC any time you want to for free (gender and race have to stay the same). So if they can do it, why can't anyone else?

Fair enough. I shall edit to withdraw the statement and hope that common sense will convey those titles suck instead.

    What people want from MMos

    1) 5 years of content on day 1
    2) For it to have a p2p model and be F2P
    3) For the devs to do every little thing they ask, and have it done immediately, no matter how rediculous the request is

and sad is, this is what you see in every mmo as far as demands go now

as for the list above, sorry but you give GW2 and SWTOR way too much credit

Yea this pretty much sums it all in the shortest yet still precise of manners. People want XIV to be changed radically yet aren't patient enough to wait for it. I have also seen people say they should just make it f2p(and expect the game to still have the massive amount of content like a p2p).

Actually eve is going to add 'barber' to station service. You be able to change hair, clothing, generalyy everything except your face ( however you will be able to change its expression) gender and race. They are addint tatoos, and so on. And iits going to happen tommorow <_<

And it is for free, becouse of one thing. Eve players, lore wise, are choosen ones, they are demi -gods, immortals. Only very small percent are able to become pod pilots, and those are the players. In game terms, they are richer than planetary governments ( and i guess some aliances have more budget for military than actuall NPC empires ). And who the hell would charge someone like this for a haircut?

    This.

If I wanted either of those games, I'd go play either of those games. If I wanted dynamic content, I'd play Rift (I hated Rift, and I hated the dynamic content it offered after ten minutes). I think it's a little ridiculous to make a topic asking what people want, and then state that everything you want is crap from other games....the one thing I have ALWAYS given SE credit for is being different in a sea of "me too" MMO games.....that's why I play their games, and that's why I love them (aside from loving the FF series to begin with).
