    Not thrilled about Crafting changes…

Q: How will crafting and gathering change in A Realm Reborn?

A: [Answered while demonstrating on screen] For crafting we will have something known as a crafting journal, and when you select the item you would like to make from the journal, it will be possible to confirm how many materials are necessary and select which materials you will use from the list. Also, we will be implementing something known as CP, so as long as you have them you will be able to execute actions and craft continuously. Additionally, it will be possible to craft in mass quantities.

In regards to gathering, we will be making it possible to select whether gathering points are displayed via an ability. Depending on the gathering point the items you can gather will differ, but depending on your experience you will be able to determine the items you can gather and it will be possible to use actions to aim for the items you want to gather.

In A Realm Reborn, when making a new character we will be limiting the class selection choice to battle classes only. After proceeding through the tutorials your character will grow and the Armoury system will be unlocked, thus enabling you to change into a Disciple of Land or Hand class.

The last round of crafting changes in retrospect were not that bad although coming from someone who loves to craft and gather I thought it was a little over simplified at first. Now it looks as if the non-crafting portion of our community has won the day. The new system appears to cater to those who don’t like to be bothered by crafting.

This has a very similar sound to the system I see in Guild Wars 2 (never played WoW, so can’t comment there), and I’ve got to admit; I don’t like it. There is no skill, no finesse to it, and its just so abstract.

Hate to pile on because a lot of folks are complaining about everything right now. I’ll still be here come 2.0, so I guess I’ll wait and see, saving my disappointment till then.

The heaver the misery the greater the sense of accomplishment

You will never respect what you didn’t have to work for

Idk what controls you use right now, but as a keyboard + mouse player, hitting Space bar repeatedly isn't fun. While these aren't facts, just all opinions, I'm thrilled with the changes & I think it will allow more people to level a craft, which in the long term saves a ton on repairing at NPCs, more AH items, and more options to have melds, etc.

Space Bar smash isnt how i'd like to spend my time.. basically it defaults to options where hitting space bar repeatedly is how you craft with the exception of selecting skills. Of course this would be for producing NQ, HQ they havent said they will remove skills, so it's still "skillful" in that aspect.. what skill is there in making NQ? NQ mainly for mass production or leveling. I support the change - My 2 cents

Honestly, I find crafting to be more boring (if a lot easier) than it's ever been.

Why? Because the emphasis is ALWAYS on quality & spamming the right abilities. For one thing, there are too many overlapping abilities - there's something like 4 skills that all give +50% quality for 3 turns... is that really necessary? And there's 2 or 3 that advance progress 20% - lack of creativity much? Why isn't the GSM 45 skill automatic great success for careful synthesis for 3 turns? (OP I'll admit but well, it's GSM - it only feels right to me that the class who's main emphasis is on shiny things pays the most attention to quality)

I like the idea of CP, of making us select our skills according to our needs. My only concern is with regards to the rate that CP is used up and refills; there are days where I don't craft much and then there's times where I just go on a binge.

The last point I'd like to make, is again about the emphasis on quality. Originally, you just had to focus on finishing the synth for your EXP. You could raise quality if you liked for bonus rewards on leves and/or HQ (though HQ was much more random then). I'd much rather that the EXP bonus for quality be reduced, base EXP per synth increased, and EXP per synth be increased as well on leves like it used to be. I'm an avid crafter & gatherer, but my sanity can only take it for so long. Emphasis on quality should really be for HQ and extra rewards from leves. I hate spending 3~4 minutes on what should be a 30~60 recipe to milk it for as much exp as possible.

Furthermore, it strikes me as a bit silly that HQ ingredients are pretty much mandatory even when your skill level and stats greatly exceed the recipe. A level 50 crafter shouldn't need all +1 materials to HQ a level 5 recipe for example, that's just silly. I don't have a problem with needing them for better odds, especially when the recipe is equal to or higher than your level, but I feel like having a good deal of skill should count for more.

Ah hell while I'm at it what about the guild facilities? We can still pay for support, but it doesn't do anything anymore as none of the newer recipes require it. Are there any plans to have guild support have an impact on synthesis again? One thing I always wanted in XI was to be able to pay a guild to actually use their equipment.

I think that could have potential for some cool minigames. Instead of the normal synthesis interactions, you get to use whatever tools/machinery the guild has set up (though, this would probably be too much without private instances and even then that'd be a hassle) to enhance your abilities. So instead of just my stupid little hammer and anvil, I would get to process my ores inside an actual forge.

This sounds like they are getting rid of the crafting mini game, and if so, thank god...... sorry but I do not log in to work, I log in to play, and crafting became a major job -.-

I love seeing this particular quote/argument. First, it's perfectly fine you feel that way. Many games make things more simplified and less "work" However, many of us don't consider that work a job. I'm a lazy person to a degree in real life, but I know that the less "work" (as you put it) it takes, the less enjoyment/satisfaction I get from the action and end result. I've seen one or two games where this has happened, people want it easier or less of "a job" and it degrades. The company may just want a different type of customer. I may be a minority in this, but when a company makes a game that appeals to me, why should they change it to appeal to someone who doesn't like the type of game it is? There are already a smaller number of games that appeal to the work/reward mindset compared to the opposite.

I actually agree.. and totally disagree lol

I would love to see a system (crafting or not) that is deep and complex, but not for levelling it or making basic items.
But the hi end stuff like double melded and beyond or enhancing items, should be hard, and difficult and ahve a complex mini game involved, that it that kind of direction over just simple.

But as for the crafting changes.. i'm for them as crafting wasn't really hard, it was just so repetitive and slow, it killed any enjoyment for me personally.
I argued this previously when they did the changes that they were not addressing the issue, just dumbing it down.
I still feel this is the case to a point

Gathering, I've never liked lottery systems in game for items, always seems lazy and frustrating.
Choosing what I gather is useful, it'll help players a lot more then hinder anyone.
Imagen having any mob drop any loot item.. how fun would that be, a full inventory in 5mins..

But yeah I don't want another run of the mill middle of the road mmo, I have other games for that, i want something different..
Look at EvE, it's the only game to have more subs year on year ( I believe anyway) and it's not exactly in its youth any more.

The minigame is still there, it's just not laggy, and looks much better than it currently does. I'm love the changes for Gathering and Crafting, shame the regional server shit killed all of my hype for 2.0.

    Hummm...

I use a controller so I press a smooth pretty green button. With each firm but yielding release the endorphins in my pleasure center build to an almost overwhelming climax upon completion.

But I understand, not everyone is up for Tantric, for some it’s all about the quick release.

I wish I felt like that when putting my pin-code in to pay with my credit card or pushing buttons at work. Would make life just way more exciting.

This battle has long been lost, OP.

    I mean, let's face it.

Crafting recipes have been gutted down to basics. Everyone is level 50 everything and if not they will be in a couple weeks.

There is really no point in trying to champion the crafting cause anymore.

    He's dead, Jim.
