Copyright Infringment in Design Contest!

What is it with people trying to shine a bad light on the community events these passed few days?

These events are one of the only good things about this forum. Let's not destroy one of the only positive parts of the forum ok kids?

The events themselves are not bad, it's the way they chose winners.. it's weird.

it seem people are more mad about the part that the rings dont' look very good vs what others have done and i have to agree. There a lot of other rings looking 10x better then the ones they pick but does not matter it's there contest they can pick whichever they like.

The ring in the op remind me of the ring from COP the dps one,.

When you get thousands of entries I wouldn't put it past someone to not look at them all lol. That being said - I have no proof and that is highly unbased conspiracy.

I would have liked to see 50 winners or something though, there were so many good rings in that thread ____* was managing. * Sorry blank, forgot your name :P

Rajas Ring consists of a single, coiling band.

The triple-band design in the OP/contest (No.6) is a common style of ring composed of three independent, overlapping or intersecting bands. "3 band ring" in google images brings up dozens of results in the same style--this is not a case of copyright infringement, since the design does not carry a distinctive appearance associated with any brand or IP any more than a simple loop ring does. You can't patent/copyright a generic thing.

There's no excuse for the wing ring, though. Shameless.

I don't even know if ring designs can be copyrighted but they aren't being used for profit or even 100% copied, perhaps they took inspiration from those designs but.. so what
I wonder if the first human to make a ring got butt hurt when the other cave man decided to make a loop out of bone and copied his idea

As for copyright infringement, I'm not sure if either of these were willfully infringing ... it's more likely that they just lack originality. To quote Mitch Hedberg, "If I made potato chips and put them in a can, everyone would say that I was ripping off Pringles ... Yeah, but what if I put them in a bag?" The fact that it looks so similar to a ring already in Square Enix's store, though... /facepalm

Still, I agree; while I look forward to community events and hope SE never stops dishing out the contests, something here is fishy as to how they chose these finalists... and why they're displayed without names / captions.

It might wont be a copyright infringement, but its still cheap.
We saw so many cool rings of ppl in this "Show your Rings" Thread, who thought about completely new designs, and instead two ppl are chosen who just did copy an existing design.

And no, im not mad because my ring wasnt chosen, because i didnt even participate (my drawing/Photoshop skills do suck).
