Lunch money makes sense in real life... I'm not so sure about FFXIV... I actually spend gil maybe once every other week while leveling up a class...

"Ul'dah can keep their dusty markets, and their streets paved in silver and gold.
Limsa Lominsa keep your pirates, and your ships covered in musty mold.
My loyalty lies with Gridania, with the Moogles and the tree spirits of old." -The Forky Conjurer
Rich people dont brag, they typically keep quiet so their friends dont constantly bug them for gil. I just think its wrong to limit a persons income drastically. Its means people will have to constantly transfer money to alts now, so theyre solving nothing.
in the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part III Q&A Updates thread
Bayohne mentionned
so maybe its just the cap and not a % of the gils we haveQ: Will you wipe gil from our characters or change the currency with the launch of ARR?
A: No, there won't be a gil wipe. However, we do currently have plans to decrease the max digit by 1 (999,999,999 > 99,999,999)
That is one example. you can extrapolate it across every person.
Look, I would love for them to just wipe everyone with over 100 mil down to 100 and leave the rest alone... but i just refuse to believe SE is putting in place a system where they knew people would just scramble to hide it on retainers. We thought of that in less then 5 min, I am pretty sure SE would think of it too...
So, what was wrong with the other thread on this same topic?
I'm pretty neutral on this subject. I'm planning on starting over but I can see how some might get upset. I guess the RMT would start to worry if they implement an absolute Gil cap that an account can have regardless in how many alts that were purchased. Or restrict how much Gil that can be transfered to/from an account which covers all alts.
This is honestly the only sane way I can think of that they'd be doing this, but a rep response clarifying matters would be appreciated.I read it that are basically reducing everyone's money to fit the new economy.
If you take your current gil count, and knock the last digit off, that's how much you'll have in ARR
This isn't bad for anyone, regardless of how much money they have, because it happens to everyone simultaneously.
If you had 10x more cash than another player before, you will still have it after. A world wide economy change like this isn't necessarily needed, but it does make the numbers smaller and easier for everyone to deal with.
Its the difference between counting everything in pennies or pounds. except because Gil has no smaller derivative they are manually adjusting it, something easily done with a virtual currency.
7UP!
Aye I do agree with ya, and I actually thought about such an idea for a bit, but the only problem is I think it would be too easy to work around because players could just dump their gil off on the mule/retainer/friend and get it for cheap, unless you make it all based off the entire amount of dough on the account then that might be something different.
There's not an easy way to go about it, although I don't think its fair to the rich because they spent their time actually acquiring the gil without some sort of compensation out of it all, even if it's a shit ton of GC seals.

I just wonder how this is going to affect the housing prices. They said large areas of land will be hugely expensive - so how will this cost be resolved? Rent?
doop doop
Let's hope it's not the same system as how they have the stalls set up, paying rent every 24 hours. And if you miss a day,
EVICTION!
