It has EXPLOITED pasted on it...
It's different when a Dev comes out and actually says it was an exploit and when the player base of an MMO says its an exploit.Yes it is.
If I stand on a square in a room and get infinite exp and wasnt meant to happen by the devs its an expliot. You never hacked for it either.
Everyone could stand on that one spot, by your logic it isnt an exploit. By your logic nothing is an exploit unless is segregates, and that has nothing to do with the definition of an exploit.
However, telling what was meant by the devs and what was not can be hard. I will give that to you.
In the live QA thing they did recently they admit to taking down the NPC because it was creating unintended effects.
Whether they meant making gil from the system or just getting lots of seals it wasn't clear (to me at least).
But yes, there are probably a lot of things that are called exploits that aren't.
At first I felt like it was an exploit but thats a tricky term when it comes to what actually happened.
To best explain what I mean I will use this example, 5 years ago in FFXI there was a situation where you could have one scroll of the spell Holy and when you sold it to an NPC you got the gil but the item didnt leave your inventory, that to me is an exploit, something that was happening that wasnt supposed to happen. A game design that was flawed and the players were using it to make endless amounts of money.
This really isnt an exploit, basically you were trading in flame seals and spending them with the values created by SE. You were getting the correct amount of items and selling them to npcs for the correct value they were intended to be sold by. So there really was no exploit, it was more an oversight since the system was working properly in all cases. I dont care what they call it, it was their system and it was working as intended so I dont see how that was an exploit really.
It would be totally different if they were getting extra voidstones by tricking the system or something encoded in the NPC sales system wasnt working properly but that wasnt the case.
An exploit? Sorry I dont think so. (Also I didnt know what they were doing until 1 hour before SE went in and changed the drop rate for the clusters). I didnt get a chance to benefit from this situation so I dont have a dog in the fight, just calling it like I see it.
I was under the impression that the exploit was people who would kill atmos, warp to town, turn in cluster, warp back, kill atmos again. Giving a gaurenteed 12k per 18+24 plus all the extra crystals you got (leading some ppl to get 20k+ per session). At first I felt like it was an exploit but thats a tricky term when it comes to what actually happened.

Mew!
If the show fits. I'm willing to bet the person I was responding to falls into several of those categories.
*GASP*....what a shocker, another typical lack in foresight by the good ol Dev team. wtf did they think was going to happen when they undermined the time factor for GC points with a simple obtainable item from a repeatable quest.
I'm confused by your math. Wasn't each cluster worth 3K seals?
2 clusters per 24 (in game) hours = 6K seals
So I'm not sure how people were getting 12K seals guaranteed. Am I missing something?
3300 seals and you could move to another camp for free, so you don't have to stand around and wait.
