Don't see what the big issue is. If you want to play with a large percentage of Japanese players, pick a Japanese server. We'll see you in the Content Finder when you get rejected for not being "JP ONLY".

A forum poll is biased to the forum poster subculture, which is not statistically representative of the playerbase due to the nonsense that goes on around here.
I think the issue that comes from people wanting it to be like XI is that they don't realize that's exactly what is set up now, and will be if you choose to play on a JP regional server. There isn't anything special about it.
The reason why there's lower latency for XI is because it was designed for PS2 and 56k internet connections, which is nothing now and why there really isn't any latency issues for XI. Just think of how far technology and the internet has come since the launch of XI and you'll realize why this relic runs somewhat smoothly in terms of latency.
X|V is not designed with this limitation in mind. There is a lot more bandwidth available to make use of, which will increase the latency of the connection when traveling overseas, which can be offset by having a regional server for people to play on. Or, if the latency doesn't bother you and doesn't effect your enjoyment of the game, stick with a JP regional server.
As for segregation, nothing is being forced on players to be locked in a region, or even play on a server in their region. It is a choice for the player, as well as new future players. Change will only come if players choose to change.
That is fine and all I have no arguments about limitation with hardware however, it is still not the right option, Server technology and network architecture has grown a lot since 11 days, so this is a problem where your technically forcing ppl to choose their friends who they played through the beta with for the game and lag difference, yoshida wanted this game to be about playing with people and social bs no? So why take away people we are used to since alpha/beta of 1.0?
To make it simpler for people this is how we see (those who want the regional server but don't want to be segregated from friends in different areas)
Example:
Option 1: you shoot your self
Option 2: I shoot you. Either way you still don't win
SE Point of view
Option 1: no lag option but no friends who you played with for 1 year through the 1.0 hardship
Option 2: A lot of lag and with friends that you made since beta/alpha cause of SE
This here is not ACCEPTABLE, we need a better option, REGIONAL SERVER with removal of diversity of selecting location server.
So... you're asking for a solution that is technically impossible?
SE, Y U NO DEFY THE LAWS OF PHYSICS AND MAEK LIGHT TRAVEL INSTANTANEOUSLY?!?!
Increasing server or client performance has nothing to do with it. Data travel between two opposite sides of the globe will always be slower than data travel across a single country or continent.
The topic is hot, and it's not easy take a decision. I personally think that an omogeneous world is better than a flat and boring one, I'm in favour of mixed servers where people from all over the world can play together. I'm aware of the huge lag issues that afflict the game NOW, and what I hope at this point is that in the future even on a japanese Data Center lag problems will be lessened. (Check Ifrit's Eruption video to have an idea about)
I'll try to create a PG on a far Data Server to check if it's playable or not... But actually I'm not convinced about what to do when time will come...
hey check it out, another like solicitation thread.
Vote yes or no, either way, starlord wins!
