I was browsing the other ~28 page (at the time of this post) thread about this very topic. I'm confused what the big deal is.

Sure it sucks to have to make some new friends but this change is to correct a huge oversight that was made when the existing server setup was designed.

Pretty much every other MMO uses regional servers for good reason.. It works better.

I'm sure some of my current LS will go their separate ways and I'll miss playing with them but if they are good enough friends to freak out over as a result of this change you can always stay in contact via social networking it's not like SE is killing any chance you have to maintain the friendship.

Also, from what I read, if you feel you need to be on a JP server that bad, why not just pick one to play on?

Hmm I could have sworn before when we had a poll about server name and merger, going to which world helped changed se view. I don't see why this poll can't do the same. Regional server like XI yes but community segregation no please. Need and a better plan that addresses both not the easy way out plan

I think the issue that comes from people wanting it to be like XI is that they don't realize that's exactly what is set up now, and will be if you choose to play on a JP regional server. There isn't anything special about it.

The reason why there's lower latency for XI is because it was designed for PS2 and 56k internet connections, which is nothing now and why there really isn't any latency issues for XI. Just think of how far technology and the internet has come since the launch of XI and you'll realize why this relic runs somewhat smoothly in terms of latency.

X|V is not designed with this limitation in mind. There is a lot more bandwidth available to make use of, which will increase the latency of the connection when traveling overseas, which can be offset by having a regional server for people to play on. Or, if the latency doesn't bother you and doesn't effect your enjoyment of the game, stick with a JP regional server.

As for segregation, nothing is being forced on players to be locked in a region, or even play on a server in their region. It is a choice for the player, as well as new future players. Change will only come if players choose to change.
