Free Company Information

I don't know why you'd even think 8 would be the upper limit of a Free Company. This is supposed to be the equivalent of a guild in WoW, where you have a lot of people and go do content together. There's going to be content that supports 24 people so why would you have any less than that?

The forming of a Free Company also sounds like that of WoW, just with some different restrictions. In WoW, you needed 8 random people to sign your petition to form a guild. In ARR, you must have 4 people who have joined any Grand Company (i.e. reached level 20) to come together and form the Free Company.

If the system is designed well, that doesn't mean these 4 will be limited to being the only officers. You should be able to assign ranks like you currently do in linkshells. I expect the ranking to be something like founders > officers > members. If/when they make a FC bank or vault, you'll probably get access to certain tabs of it based on your rank. This is how it works in WoW anyway and I can't see them doing it much differently since it works.

Should and SE dont always get along in the same sentence however..

Linkshell's features will basically be transfered to Free Company and linkshell will be more like a chat channel. Also in Free Company you will be able to transfer leader authority so please don't worry.

フリーカンパニーのユニフォームとまではいきませんが、フリーカンパニーのクレストを一部の装備品につけることができるようになる予定です。
It isn't uniform for the Free Company but it's planned where you can have the Free Companies crest in some of the equipment.

Ogre Okipuit here with a bit more information and clarification about Free Companies!

As you may have heard, you'll need at least 4 people to create a free company and of course you can add more over time. We haven't finalized the details yet, but we're planning on allowing at least 100 members to join an FC.

As for the relationship between grand companies and free companies:

• By requesting permission from a grand company, a free company can become a subsidiary of that grand company.
• Despite the fact that free companies are subsidiaries of grand companies, you do not need to be members from the same Grand Company in order to found or join an FC.

We also plan on making it possible to place your free company's crest on certain equipment.

Current LS features will be carried on to Free Companies and it will be possible to delegate leader rights. As for Linkshells, in A Realm Reborn they will be treated as chat channels.

EDIT: I cant find the translation I got the below feeling from, but If what I say below is true then some counter measure should be taken. IF not what below then clarification on why you are aligning and what it means would be super

Brought this up in Rein's thread (where Okipuit posted as well) but is there anything being done for the misshap that will happen when people start talking about FC, GC, and themselves?

Once a LS talks about going FC they will talk about picking their aligned GC. And everyone will want the GC they dont belong to, and someone is going to end up screwed out of a GC or out of a "guild" (basically).

I hope that we can either one time reset our GC*, or some how with great effort (not free or easy) align the FC to more then one GC. Otherwise alliances will be broken and enemies will be made lol.

* I'm sure people would like to pick new towns (GC) as well, most of us picked Ul'dah just because thats where everyone was at and wanted to be able to do content easier.

and Jake is a part of the Maelstrom (?) M

Your FC decides to align itself with TA. Bob and Jake get to use a new GC. Tim is not going to get anything new (TA + TA = still TA).

Feels weird you can create a LS from thin air but a Free Company needs permission from a "non" free (grand) company.

I do thing that the prerequisites are very fair. Way to go FFXIV devs, this is very good structuring.
