Well, I think personally story can be changed. The thing that concerns me most about any pet job being put in game is the map design. Could you imagine trying to summon in Nanawa Mines, Mistbeard Cove or any of the smaller areas where your head actually hits the ceiling?

And fit them where in your back pocket? There is no room on maps to add them.

    Crazy idea...

Rather than the traditional FFXI style sommoning,, what if the Summoning magic had incremental effects?

    For instance:

SMN begins to summon Shiva. Total casting time = 30 sec
    • 0:00: Casting begins and a large spherical field (see: Limsa's opening story) appears. snow begins to fall inside field and ice elemental attacks are enhanced.
    • 0:05: A friendly Ice Elemental appears and begins to attack the mob.
    • 0:10: Enemies within the field suffer the Frost effect and Paralyze.
    • 0:15: A second friendly Ice Elemental appears and begins to attack the mob.
    • 0:20: Party members within the field gain Ice Spikes and enBlizzard
    • 0:25: A third friendly Ice Elemental appears and begins to attack the mob.
    • 0:30: All Party and Mobs within the field are transported to Shiva's realm where Shiva appears and unleashes Diamond Dust. When the sequence is complete, the field and all it's effects end and the game returns to normal.

*Note: The final sequence would be a client-side experience and only be visible to party members within the field, all others would see the 'bubble' frost over and become opaque until the final damage part of the animation on the mob. (that is to say, outsiders won't see either Shiva's realm or Shiva herself)

I would make this magic rather fragile so that if the summoner gets hit or moves, the field and its effects immediately end and the spell must be restarted. This would also force tanks to work very hard to keep mobs within the field and yet away from the summoner. Also the summoner's emnity could increase gradually as the spell is being cast, thus making it more difficult to maintain the spell.

The notion of a summoned monster perpetually out and following a person around is much better suited for a Beastmaster (pet) job. In contrast, Avatars are extremely powerful demi-god beings and it makes more sense for the player to visit their realm than vice-versa.

Well in the storyline we are told w might have the power to summon bc we saw ifrit take mercy on us in the cutscene and then shortly later we get told we might have that ability in us as long as we continue to develop. Bahamut could have been the dragon in the openning video, and if we are at war with the garleans as the story is suggesting a possible future truce with dragonkin could allow us to access their spirits. So far the story is very open allowing the dev team to go in a number of directions.

Instead of having a Dedicated Summoner Class they could have a "Pet Class"

The Core of this class would be the ability to control Pets. But the user would have access to three types of pets.

    1. Monsters tamed and controlled from the Enviroment. (Blue Magic Path)

    2. Monsters based on elements and summoned (Summon Magic Path) doesn't necessarily have to be the "Core" Summons like Ifirit and Shiva, but can be the alternates and lower level summons like Cait Sith, Pupu, and other FF Mascots.

    3. Puppets (Character Mimics)

The core skills just dictate how you control the pet, The pet itself dictates what you can do when you use those skills with them.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

great idea for a single player game not for a party in the middle of a battle, hey guys where the mob go?
oh ya its in shiva's realm . . . I like the idea needs tweaking though.

The mob doesn't "Dissapear", rather its just obscured from view outside the field and it only happens is when the spell hits the 0:30 mark.

It doesn't even need to work that way, rather the sequence could just be something that is visible on the client-side only, but I like the idea of making a solid frosted-over sphere to sell the concept better.

What's in the story exactly that's stopping us?
The summons from XI were actually in-fact the Avatars of the sleeping gods of Vana'diel. The gods that wanted to kill us all and return the planet to its original state. We weren't summoning the real deals, just Avatar personifications of them.. What is there at all to stop us from summoning Avatars of the Primals?
