5 honest questions about FF14 SE should ask itself if it wants to fix FF14

    Who are the core fans?
What do they really, really want, really and expect?
To what degree does this game fulfill their wants?
How do the wants and expectations differ from both the current product and current future vision of the product?
Finally, what does SE think the fans want and how are these thoughts different from what the fans really, really want?

If the people who are calling the shots at SE can honestly ask themselves these questions and honestly answer them knowing they might not like any of the answers, then I think FF14 can be fixed.

Is asking what the 'fans' want really better than asking what 'non-fans' want?

This game still has fans? I'm shocked.

Still, there is a core audience that this game is, was, or should be designed for... that core audience (as well as FF fans who should probably make up a big chunk of that core audience) are the fans I was referring to.

Asking what non-fans want (people who wouldn't touch a JRPG or an FF game anyways) would be counter-productive. That's why you've got to figure out who your core fans are first.

This game will profit more of a LARGE and happy player base than a small and happy hardcore fan base.

Identifying the target is the first and foremost rule of marketing.
Wanting to target "everyone" is the first and foremost fallacy in marketing.

    Who are the core fans?
The players who moved from FFXI and are too stubborn to move back because they sold everything they had on the auction, or gave it all to friends.
What do they really, really want, really and expect?
Quests, chocobos, new game content, and better skill graphics. And I think I read somewhere that someone wants some sort of Creepy Crawler machine. I don't know what was up with that suggestion...
To what degree does this game fulfill their wants?
It's more entertaining than MSN instant messaging.
How do the wants and expectations differ from both the current product and current future vision of the product?
It was released prematurely. Think of it like giving birth. SE is sitting in the hospital bed, pumped up on drugs while FFXIV is in the nursery receiving vital upgrades. It's under that UV light with the Frank Sinatra sunglasses on.
Finally, what does SE think the fans want and how are these thoughts different from what the fans really, really want?
I think SE knows that everyone wants quests and chocobos and more game content and better skill graphics, but actually following through will take time because as noted before, the baby is still in the nursery.
If the people who are calling the shots at SE can honestly ask themselves these questions and honestly answer them knowing they might not like any of the answers, then I think FF14 can be fixed.

I think they already have a good idea of what needs to be done and if there is a problem or better method, that is what these forums are for.
