Well, I am reading it the opposite as you are.. If you can, can you explain how you are reading it, because really, I am still confused about the whole thing, but that's the way I am thinking atm. If it is what you say, then that even better than what most of us are originally thinking.
I thought it was a bit ridiculous that people actually believed that SE was going to set up some complex mirroring system so they can send data from EU and NA to Japan and have 3 sets of servers.
Not being able to play during "peak hours" is just another excuse.
As long as I'm given a choice to stay where I am, then I won't make a big deal out of it. I've been playing with same group of people from multiple regions for almost 2 years now. I hate to loose my friends and I'm sure they feel the same.

bad news indeed![]()
-1 all i need to say
The way i read it is the current servers are all in japan and currently an amalgamation of all regions and this will stay this way. what they will be doing is adding in new servers to each region and allowing players the freedom to transfer between servers by their choice. furthermore, they are completely re-creating the client to reduce server latency which should make playing in japanese servers more efficient then the current model. They also will not be forcing any server tranfers (to the best of my knowledge) so any transfers will be personal preference.
if that information is correct then i fail to see why such an outrage in this thread. i do understand some people will make the personal choice to change to a local server and this might change the dynamic of some existing groups. i'm sure those who are outraged will maintain the current server as they have built a community on there that they cherish thereby keeping things the way they were.
if your community is strong, as you claim, then this addition to servers should not change anything for you. if people leave your server for one closer to them, let them, obviously their sense of community was not as strong as yours. this by no means prevents new english players from starting on the japanese servers, only provides them with options.
Why are so many people wanting to remove the choice from those who might want it? i support SE's decision and the players freedom of choice.
This is what I have been trying to say all along. The only thing up in the air is all the current servers are going to stay in Japan (I somehow doubt the EU preferred server is going to stay in Japan that we have now). In which case if any of them move and become 'atlantic data center' or 'pacific data center' regions the only ones losing anything is going to the JP side of the equation. Just call the old servers international server and let the new ones be the region preferred and let people choose if they want things to stay the same or go to a new server, no different then when a new server goes live or people use the world transfer options.
