I'm pretty sure most of us who want this are willing to put up with it. The lag in 2.0 should be far less awful than what it is right now, too.
The one issue is it has nothing to do with people not wanting to play with someone as it does them screwing themselves over in the long run.
Alot of people do not want to use Content finder for everything. They want a solid LS to do events with throughout the day, they want to meet people on the server and start statics with them, they want a strong community.
If an Eu player comes to a NA server they risk there being a massive lack of players on in Eu prime (when most ppl are at work and school) which will force content finder, it will make it extremely difficult to keep a linkshell going that operates in that time zone due to lack of new recruits when older member leave for what ever reason. The same is true for a NA going to Eu (you will be logging in between 11pm and 4 am in Eu if you are NA, which is when most ppl sleep).
The only way a global LS or a player who plays multiple time zones can make it work is for there to be adequate people online between the hours of around 11am to midnight Est. With regional servers this has never happened on any mmo, even wow with its 10s of millions of subs cannot break 500-600 people online at 11am on NA servers unless it is a weekend or patch day... this simply will not work, especially considering this game will have less subs to begin with.
SE made the Ragnarok server for EUs.... and the majority choose to remain on a global server, that should tell SE something there.
Allow me to say: DUH~
Then again it all depends on if they actually fix whats causing the "Lag" everyone experiences with Ifrit (Protip it has little to nothing to do with your latency)
You guys say "Duh" now but when there are mechanics that aren't exactly 200ms+ friendly - don't say you weren't warned.
As for Ifrit it mostly has to do with how often the client and server are updating each other on where your character is physically located. Where you're standing on your screen is not exactly where the server sees you - it might be anywhere from 1-1.5 seconds behind which doesn't sound like a lot but obviously it has a huge affect on gameplay. To say that latency has nothing to do with this is silly... it's not the soul reason for the problem but it does factor in.

This is how I feel when I read posts on these boards:
I never said it had nothing to do with it. It does however mean very little as far as the problem is concerned even Japanese players who live you know mere miles away from the servers have these same issues.
So yes, latency is hardly the issue here.
*edit*
and please do explain what kind of manuvers you expect to be 200ms+ unfriendly? This is a MMO not a FPS.
...lol I find that hard to believe since you're still asking that question.

So...your just going to refuse to answer? I have my ideas of what you mean but it's funny you want to drag it out for some silly reason. The main opponent against the global servers tag itself brings it up constantly.
But if you refuse to be civil and answer a simple question...
Almost anything in Heroic Ragnaros can not be done in a 200+ms latency. See the video.
