I don't really care.
People make too much drama about being separated..I once was part of a great community on Lindblum which later became Sargatanas. When my main LS decided to switch to Ragnarok with the server transfer I was sad about it and thought it's horrible how I'm separated from many of my old friends from Lindblum.
But really, it didn't matter after all.
I made tons of great new friends on Ragnarok, kept in touch outside of the game with the people on Lindblum I REALLY cared about and everyone else..well it may feel like a close-knit community while you are part of it, but as soon as you are on different servers you will notice that most of the people didn't really matter after all.
I was hesistant at the time of the transfer, but I never even once regretted moving to a European server; and that's even without reduced server lag!
People act dramatic about it because they don't know yet that it doesn't matter much.
I was like that too, I was strongly against there being Japanese, North American and European servers when they introduced their server change plan. But really, once you experience it, you will notice that the drama you made about it was stupid![]()
Its not segregation i fear, plans can be made to move an entire LS to whichever server. i fear FF14 isn't going to be the blasting success SE painting it too be, i don't want to play on a dead server, i did it for 5 months in this game before i finally decided to jump ship to Mysidia.I don't really care.

No. Double no, in fact. The way I understand this( and I skipped like 10~12 pages of discussion) Data Centers are limited to region but Worlds aren't
...so even if stay in my world/server, I still can choose an NA data center for its benefits but the amount of international players won't change, right?
Data Centers house servers/shards/"worlds" (they're all the same thing). One "world" can only exist in one data center at any given time.
There is no possible way that you can, say, connect to Balmung (a Japanese server, in a Japanese data center) whilst only communicating with a NA or EU data center, as if there were a real-time, updating "copy" of Balmung on it. It doesn't (can't) work like that.
If you want the benefits of using a regional server, then you'll have to either re-roll anew or transfer one of your existing characters to the new "Honey Boo Boo" server (the names of the new shards, obviously, have not been finalized yet).
In short: you cannot have your cake and eat it too. Square does not know how to bypass the laws of physics.
At best, all information sent out over the internet takes 5 microseconds (0.005ms) to move 1km (the speed of light, in comparison, is 3.33 microseconds/km in a vacuum); do the math.
How many times does someone have to explain it?? o.O
hmm, indeed... lol
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolol

Why aren't devs locking this thread now?
"Hello,
While I'm glad to see so many people taking a renewed interest in this topic, there are newer threads dealing with this and so in order to keep things tidy, I'll be closing this thread. I hope you'll continue to post, and to use this thread for reference if you like, but it will be closed from here on in.

They lock my thread but not this thread, there are new and other threads about this topic. Seriously, wtf....
