They are hoping for a server architecture that can be played in same world but different servers. But this one is the same ol' server architecture.I don't know what exactly people were expecting. You ask for better latency, and they solve it. Now you're complaining that servers will be segregated? I don't see a problem with sticking to a JP server, as long as the response time is better than what it is now. No matter where you are in the world the current server structure is absolutely horrid. Even JPs suffer through lag on the current setup. There won't be a massive delay in 2.0, if PSO2 is anything to go by, though you will see a few hiccups. They just need to make a lot of the UI and hit detection client side. Like they should have from the beginning.
I hope for the better too, regional servers, but same realm

I have NA friends and EU friends. There is no way I could possibly ever convince them to play on the same server as mine if it ends up being a JP world. Not only that but I would expect non JP population to fall drastically, meaning you are effectively segregating communities that have already been together for 2 years now.
And no, "make new friends" is not an option. Sorry if I actually care about the people I play this game with.

If you can't convince people to stay on the server you're on just because it's Japanese, that kind of just says that they would rather be on a regional server to begin with.I have NA friends and EU friends. Woah woah woah, I never even said to resort to that. Most of my Linkshell is EU, so if they decide to stick to their EU servers then I'd probably head over that way as well. Though they'll probably stick to our current server. And no, "make new friends" is not an option. Sorry if I actually care about the people I play this game with.
That isn't my point though. My point is that people wanted better latency, and now that we're getting that they don't want it because of the unique international community? Were they expecting server hops to disappear and that everyone in Australia or France would have the same latency as someone from Japan on Japanese servers all while on the same world?

So when one of my LSs decides to go to an NA server and the other wants to go to a EU server, I just have to willingly cut the amount of friends I have in half?
I play at all sorts of different hours of the day and speak several languages, because of both these things the non-regional system is absolutely perfect for me because I get to play with lots of different people and be active in several LSs.
What SE is doing will make this effectively impossible and it WILL destroy some communities.
Someone else did right after you, sorry I didn't quote them.

No, you're right. There's not much that I can say about that. They'll make the gameplay experience better, but it will damage the community. As I said though, the community wanted better servers, they kinda got it. It's pretty shitty but there's not a whole lot that can be done at this point. So when one of my LSs decides to go to an NA server and the other wants to go to a EU server, I just have to willingly cut the amount of friends I have in half?

So even if you have friends that all speak English, if some of them chose to go to an EU Server and others go to a North America Server, (and naturally your JP friends stay on the Japan Server), what then?
You'll inevitably lose friends and your various Linkshells will be split / broken.
This is a terrible decision Square.![]()
The funny part is, FFXI isn't separated like this yet all of it's checks are perfectly fine because they dump a lot onto the client rather than servers like XIV.

The real problem is just this. If you have different friends among different regions it'll be almost impossibile to play with all of them.I have NA friends and EU friends. There is no way I could possibly ever convince them to play on the same server as mine if it ends up being a JP world. Not only that but I would expect non JP population to fall drastically, meaning you are effectively segregating communities that have already been together for 2 years now.
I loved to find every kind of different region-people around.. instead now i'll find 98% people of that specific region. Sorry but FF11 model is still the best choise on this argument, for me.

Considering it's not exactly forced on you (as they're not forcibly separating people by region), it's a fair price to pay for better game performance. As I said in the really old thread about this, your JP/EU friends won't make up for you wiping on mechanics you could easily avoid due to bad latency. It's one of those cases of not being to have the cake and eat it too.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
